No, you're not hallucinating. You read it right. Driving a new car for free may be the newest craze. Or is there a catch?
In our technology-charged, high-paced society, the flow of a great deal of commerce is driven by advertising. How can networks afford to pay for those expensive television shows with the highly-paid actors?... advertising. What keeps the radio stations from broadcasting static during your commute to work?... advertising. And how is it that you are able to get that completely free Yahoo or Hotmail account with all of its little bells, whistles, and features?... advertising.
Well it seems as if automobiles may be the next industry to be directly touched by advertising---touched in the literal sense of the word.
It used to be that as you drove down the road, the only real place you'd see advertising was on billboards. Well now, it seems, you may be seeing more of it on cars. It's a new concept that's supposed to allow drivers to drive a new car for free. All the driver has to pay for is gas and car insurance. For this convenient break, the driver agrees to drive a car that has an advertisement that is posted on it at all times.
I can certainly see the benefit for both parties, particularly for the driver, with whom most consumers can relate. After all, if you're driving a beat-up, twelve-year-old, clunker that's on its last leg, the benefits are quite obvious. If you've ever been broke, you know what it's like to have to limit your driving because you're not sure that your car will be able to make the long trip. Or maybe you're stuck with public transportation, using those buses that may not always run on time, and take more than twice as long to get you to your destination. We can all appreciate the convenience of a reliable car.
I have to be honest, this isn't something that I've ever tried, so I can't tell you how well, or how poorly such a program actually works. I'm currently one of the lowly pedestrians, walking from place to place because I can't even afford insurance for a car. But I suppose there are a lot of aspects that the driver must consider. It could certainly be a great way to be able to drive a new car. But I have to believe that it would be embarrassing to pick up a sophisticated date with a car that has a glaring advertisement for heartburn on the side of it.
Not long before people were tweeting each other on Twitter, googling their questions on Google, and swagging their money on swag my money, people were calling each other on the telephone, looking up their topics in encyclopedias, and earning their money with jobs. Now I guess the new thing will be driving around in your admobile.
