Ideas For Short Vacations In Order To Escape Work Stress

Work can be a major source of stress, and sometimes you can have a whole bag of tricks for dealing with work stress, but nothing does the job. It's at those times that you need to completely get away from it all and take a vacation. But what if you don't have the time or money to go on a real vacation? Well, here are six ideas for budget/short vacations that can truly rejuvenate you for when you return to work.

1) Plan a two-day trip to go visit a friend that you don't get to see often. Go out o lunch, play cards, go sun-bathing, take in a movie, and oh year, talk, talk, talk. Connecting with a friend and having lots of time to share your heart is a proven way of recharging your battery. And there is something very refreshing about unloading to someone who cares. Who needs professional therapy when you've got a friend! (And now I'm singing that James Taylor song in my head ... but I digress.)

2) Plan a 3-day "pamper yourself" vaction. Make a list of anything and everything that you consider pampering, and then see just how much of that list you can do in three days. Do nothing in that time that you consider work, because remember, you're on vacation! Go out to lunch every day or order in, shop at some of your favorite stores and buy yourself something nice, go to a local spa and get some treatments--just make it your mission to bask in pampering yourself.

3) Go someplace within an hour's drive that is a local place of interest that you've never gone to. I've lived in the Atlanta area for some time now, but still haven't been to the zoo, so that's someplace I plan to go within the next couple of months. Tourist-type spots are plenteous in many areas, and when we live someplace those spots are usually the last places we think to go. So check out your local Chamber of Commerce or hotels, they usually have brochures on all the interesting day-trip places, and you'd be surprised what a total change in scenery and focus can do.

4) Plan a Do Not Disturb weekend. Turn off your phone. Lay in a good supply of all your favorite foods, and refuse to count calories. Rent some movies or order VOD movies. Take a few long, lingering baths and toss in some Epsom Salts for greater relaxation. Issue the dictate to all family members that they're on their own, and refuse to think, plan or worry about anything other than rest! Remember, the mission is to be in a posture of having all work stress drop off you.

5) Center a retreat around things you like to do, but almost never get a chance to do. Like horse-back riding, going to the beach, bicycling, canoeing, writing poetry, bird watching or rock climbing. Forget regular life for a day or two--you've earned it!

6) Come up with an idea for a creative project and work on it all weekend, because shifting your focus onto something completely different from work can give you a fresh outlook and put things in perspective. It has the tendency to remind you that there is more to life than just work, and all work and no play makes Jack or Jill dull, dull, dull.

Hope some of these ideas inspire you to cast off your work stress and permit yourself some much needed rest and relaxation.

Love it and completely agree with this article. My wife and I are big fans of stay-cations and long weekend getways. Sometimes the best vacations are ones you spend on your own. Your own schedule, your own wishes and disires. If you want to sleep late, you do. If you want to spend and hour at breakfast just enjoying the company of your significant other, you do. If you want to be out shopping all day, you do, etc. You can do this in your own town, or the next ones close by. Gas can be a hell of a lot cheaper than airfare. You might want a b&b or a spa. Hey, go for it!!!
