When I started my journey at age fifty, I had to ask myself a realistic question. Can a man at the age of 50 and older have true, solid muscle gains. The answer is an unequivocal yes. Is it easy? Short answer is no. My research brought me to article after article with sales pitches ad nauseum of products proclaiming to be the holy grail of muscle building at age fifty and older.
Please dont buy into it. The ads and pictures are extremely alluring with photos of men that have hot, smoking bodied woman attached to them. Boys, that is called marketing at its best because sex sells. I will admit that I did purchase specific supplements, powders, plans and anything I thought that would help me in my quest. It was only when I stopped using the crap that I purchased did I begin to concentrate, focus and get results. After all, results are all that matter.
I became realistic with myself and needed to answer some very difficult questions. 1. How much time can I devote to an exercise regime? 2. What do I need to give up to get where I wanted to be? 3. Can I get a realistic vision of the image I aspired to be? 4. Am I willing to sacrifice? Get real with yourself. These are some tough questions. After I decided to answer yes to the aforementioned questions, did I begin to see results almost immediately. I am a living testament that all this can be done and it starts with you and attitude.
So, if you can devote 3 days a week, 90 minutes a session, have the proper equipment (I belong to a gym) and have very basic common sense about nutrition. (Its really easy. More calories consumed versus calories you have burned causes weight gain and less calories consumed versus burned causes weight loss). That is the bottom line. Above and beyond that, certain foods are more muscle friendly then others. Certain carbohydrates are more nutriciously sound versus crap carbs AND when you tear down your muscle via resistance training, eating cupcakes will not re-build them to grow. Eating quality (notice, I did not say expensive) proteins and carbs will. Also , do not underestimate the importance of fiber.
So the bottom line is, Be age fifty and older, get lean, strong , handsome and attractive. Its not onle possible, it is fun, exhilerating, attention getting. This is cliche, but I have never felt better.
