To a layman weight loss is all about burning more calories than you consume, while weight gain is a result of burning lesser calories than consumed. Therefore, for ordinary people, eating fewer calories causes weight loss whereas, eating more calories results in weight gain.

It does seem simple at the surface, but when goes in depth of the phenomenon of weight gain, several opinions and facts come to surface as do numerous myths. It is the myths that swerve people from the route of better health and the facts about weight gain. The lines below debunk the major myths pertaining to weight gain by presenting the counter facts.

Overweight Means Unhealthy:

The most common myth associated with weight gain is that being overweight automatically translates into being unhealthy. People consider the additional pounds as a magnet for diseases and health illnesses, however, while making such a claim people forget that there are people who are thinner and fall ill more compared to slightly overweight people. Therefore, you weight has very little if nothing at all to do with your health. Hence, if you wish to gain weight, then go for it without thinking that it attracts health problems.

Spices Prevent Weight Gain:

The other myth pertaining to weight gain is that spicy foods are to be avoided during the weight gain as they cause boost in metabolic rate, which causes faster calorie burn. It is merely a myth and there is no fact to it rather eating spices based foods is the same as eating any other food. Hence, when gaining weight, there is nothing wrong with eating foods rich in spices rather you can eat them as much as you want to satiate your taste buds and bring variety to your table.

Calorie Reduction Means Weight Loss:

The most common concept pertaining to weight gain and weight loss is that if a person consumes 3,000 calories they result in the form one pound weight gain, similarly reducing or burning such a number of calories results in one pound weight loss. Although these are the mathematical figures and one of the many factors contributing to weight loss or gain, yet there are numerous other factors than the simple calorie gain that affect the rate of weight gain such as the water drank on daily basis, the hormones, the menstrual cycle and so on.

Weight Lifting Causes Weight Gain:

Another common myth associated with weight gain is that weight lifting causes weight gain.
