How Do You Gain Weight? – 6 Important Factors To Help You Build Muscle

How do you gain weight? If you have a skinny frame and are trying to put on some weight, your question should be “How can I build muscle”. You can gain weight as either fat or muscle. You certainly don’t want to be gaining fat. You want to be gaining muscle. You felt it was true and now you know it’s true. Below are six very important things to keep in mind for your “How can I build muscle” adventures.

1) Testosterone levels:

Testosterone is the magical hormone responsible for muscle building. More testosterone in your body means that you’re in an anabolic, muscle building state. Testosterone levels can be increased mainly through exercise. It has been scientifically proven that doing resistance training with the right type of exercises greatly increases testosterone levels.

2) Lots of protein:

Protein is the building block of muscle. “How can I build muscle”, you ask? Just like you can’t build a house without bricks, you can’t build muscle without enough protein. There are different types of protein including whey and casein. Use each protein type strategically to maximize your muscle building ability, like using whey with its fast digestion right after a workout and using casein with its slower release before bedtime so your muscle won’t starve during sleep. Your “How can I build muscle” question can best be addressed by taking in enough protein.

3) Adequate carbs:

Body fat is a source of energy. People who have lots of body fat can tap into that energy and use it as fuel while exercising. If you are naturally skinny then you don’t have that ability and you need to consume enough carbs to power your resistance training sessions. Avoid eating carbs in the evening because they can actually turn into fat if you go to sleep without burning them. Eat your carbs early in the day and before your workout for the most fuel efficiency.

4) Hydration:

How do you gain weight? Well, 75% of your body is water, so the shortest answer is: drink more water. With water constituting so much of your body you will not build muscle without drinking enough water. Keep yourself hydrated by drinking 8-10 cups a day.

5) Vitamins:

Your body doesn’t just work off of protein and carbs. It requires many more complex vitamins and minerals to be able to build muscle. Use a good multivitamin to supplement your nutrition and eliminate any deficiencies in your diet.

6) The right workout:

Ah, the right workout, the elusive obvious. How do you gain weight? Certainly not by lifting 10-pound dumbbells to do bicep curls. How do you gain weight? Not by doing “calf raises”. How do you gain weight? Not by cheating and using machines. If you are skinny, the best and fastest answer for your “How can I build muscle” quest is by doing combination exercises to target all the major muscle groups, instead of isolation exercises which only target local muscles. Combination exercises have been proven to increase testosterone levels the most and contribute to the most mass gain.
