How To Maximise Muscle Growth With An Ectomorph Workout

If you do not know already, an ectomorph is a body type and he is simply referred to as being a skinny guy or hardgainer. Why? This is because an ectomorph has a very high metabolism rate and most ectomorphs find it hard to put on weight due to this reason, resulting in a skinny frame with little muscle mass.

I believe that if you are an ectomorph/hardgainer/skinny guy, you would have probably thought of growing bigger and stronger at some points in your life. However, chances are you do not know where to start, and for those of you who tried, you would have probably grown frustrated at not making your desired gains after working out for a period of time in the gym. Then, there are those of who have the misconception that as an ectomorph, you will not be able to gain enough weight or grow sufficient mass. That is totally false, as many hardgainers have proved that it is not impossible to bulk up and gain massive muscle mass.

Most ectomorphs do not gain results in the gym due to a lack of calories and a wrong ectomorph workout. In this article, I will highlight to you how to correct your ectomorph workout so as to maximise your muscle growth, food and nutrition will take another day.

For those ectomorphs who have been working out in the gym but not gaining results, do you know why? Is it because you followed workouts depicted in magazines, or because you have been mimicking other people or following your friend's workouts? Precisely, that's where you have been doing it wrong! Ectomorphs have to play by a different set of rules, and that rule for ectomorphs is to focus on strength training. In other words, design your ectomorph workout around compound exercises, and not focus on isolation exercises.

So why do strength training to maximise muscle growth?

(* Assuming you are consuming enough calories from good sources)

1. Strength training, or doing compound exercises work a lot more muscles than pure isolation exercises, and as an ectomorph, that is what you need so as to build up your overall strength. To put things into perspective, do you think you would get stronger arms from benching heavy weights or from doing bicep curls? By exposing MORE of your muscle fibres to HEAVIER weights, that is how you can maximise your muscle mass gains as a hardgainer.

2. This brings me to my next point, which is strength training will help you "progressively overload". The most important concept of muscle building is progressive overload, and if you ignore this principle, you can forget about building muscles.

3. Now, let's dig deeper. Strength training not only taxes your muscles but such training style overloads your central nervous system as well. This leads to the release of more growth hormones and testosterone, which are key to maximising your muscle growth! Another tip: train at a high intensity, it will engender an increase of these essential growth hormones.

4. By focusing your ectomorph workout on strength training, you create a good foundation, where you can pump out heavier weights and higher reps in the future, which will further maximise your muscle growth! Work your body as a whole, and see your general strength increase along with your muscle mass.

5. Remeber the previous part where I talked about high intensity? With high intensity, you can do a shorter ectomorph workout. And with compound exercises, you save time from doing the high number of isolation type exercises. This means you will not burn away too many calories, which you desperately need as an ectomorph!
