Testosterone Loss In Men Today

I will be explaining what is testosterone and why are men lower in testosterone today than they were 50 years ago.

What is Testosterone

Testosterone is a steroid hormone found primarily in men but also in women to lesser degrees. Men also have low amounts of estrogen in their bodies, estrogen is the dominant female hormone.

Testosterone production is done mainly by the testes, it is known as the male sex hormone and is very important for proper male functions.

Testosterone is responsible for changing boys into men, lower voices, hair growth and muscle development. Lower testosterone in men can lead to muscle loss, belly fat, and man boobs.

Why is Testosterone dropping?

Over the last 40-50 years testosterone levels have seen an overall decline, what has happened to today's men?

It's natural for testosterone to drop as men age but numerous studies have found men today are losing testosterone far more than our fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers.

There is no single answer for this problem but I have a few theories as to why this is happening. I think two of the main culprits are diet and modern medication.

If you look at the diet today I think you can imagine the difference from a few decades ago. Today fast food is everywhere. In the 1970's the government started promoting that grain rich diets are healthy.

Fast foods are filled with unhealthy fats. As the population started getting more and more fat, fats were blamed for the epidemic. In reality fats don't make people fat, sugar and processed carbs do. The unhealthy fats add to the problem.

A diet lower in grains is actually good for testosterone production. The same is true for a diet rich in healthy fats such as; olive oil, coconut oil, avocados, raw nuts, and red palm fruit oil.

Once a person gets on a road of unhealthy eating, fast food, lots of grains, breads and sugar the body will put on fat. Once a person puts on a lot of extra fat, testosterone goes down even further.

It seems like there is a medication for everything these days! Once a persons health is on the decline the chances of being on some sort of medication goes up. I don't trust all these new medications on the market. They are backed by billion dollar companies that only care about making money.

How to boost testosterone

The true way to health is to stop eating fast food, sugary soft drinks and fruit juices, and lower the amount of processed carbs. At the same time increase the amount of healthy fats.

Start a weight training program. Lifting heavy weights is also conductive to testosterone production.
