Is it possible that a person cannot afford to work? Gas is high. If a person does not work, however, he will run into big problems. Bills will come in, he will have no way to pay them, family will be unable to help, and then he will find his utilities being turned off. With so much at stake, a person cannot afford not to work.

One thing a person will accomplish by working is that he will earn the money he needs to keep his services turned on. He will never have to go without water or electricity. He may also have enough money to afford some niceties, such as cable or satellite service. That way, he can keep up with his favorite shows.

Second, he will develop skills and accomplish things that may be helpful in future jobs. He might be the coordinator of a project at work, for example. Listing this on his resume would show future employers that he has leadership abilities. Leadership is valuable in the workplace and would give this employee an advantage over others.

Third, he will enjoy a sense of purpose and being needed and valued by others. His supervisor and coworkers will see that he has something to offer, and his life will be enriched.

If a person cannot afford to drive to work and cannot afford gas money to get a ride, he might consider riding a bike to work. Riding a bike will allow him the freedom and flexibility to come and go on his own. He will not have to worry about his ride standing him up or being late, and as a result making him late for work. When he can come and go on his own without having to rely on others, he will be more likely to have a good day at work.

Since he will not be worrying about how he is going to get back and forth, he will have more energy for his job. He can type more reports, send more faxes, and answer more phone calls. A focused, energetic employee is a valuable employee.

When he gets home, he might fix a favorite dinner, such as meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, and salad. After dinner, he can watch some television. Then, finally, he will go to bed, dream sweet dreams, and get a good night's sleep so that he can prepare for another day of work. His trusty, reliable bike will be waiting to take him there.
