I'm with you today to show you how to use time-tested techniques to not only get more money in those tip jars, but also to automatically build your bar following at the same time through customer "word of mouth".This will add to your future increased tip revenue in a very short time. These tips work with both men and women bartenders and rookies or seasoned bartenders. Let's get started.
Cleanliness and hygiene are a must. You are handling a liquid product that is ingested by your customer and subject to transfer of germs just like solid food products. Believe me, customers will notice if a bartender's hands and fingernails are grubby, if the bar top or the table where they are sitting is messy and sticky and the ash trays need cleaning. If an ashtray has more than 3 cigarette butts in it, don't just dump it out, wipe it out with a paper towel or exchange it with a clean one and put the dirty one back to clean later.
One last item that many customers know but won't mention is the bartender and the use of the restroom. It is a posted law that "All Employees Must Wash Their Hands" after using the bathroom. It is a fact that most people do not wash their hands after using a public restroom. (Incidently, men are worse than women in this category). The customer doesn't know if the bartender washed their hands or not and even giving them the benefit of the doubt that they did wash their hands, you still have another problem. How does the bartender get out of the restroom by pulling on the handle or pushing on the plate cover? Either one would be contaminated by the previous customers that didn't wash their hands. The best solution to this problem is buy an inexpensive small bottle of hand sterilizer sold at any pharmacy or supermarket and use it in front of the customers. Do not make a big deal about it. Just use a couple of drops and rub it on your hands. Nothing said.
Remember, keep each customer's seating area clean and sterilized with a damp bar towel followed by a clean dry towel. Your customer will appreciate this because they know you are looking after them. Keeping your customer area clean takes less than a minute and not only gets tips, it gains you customer loyalty to come back.
