Designer Dogs

Do you find it more difficult to maintain your pet health protection? This is a common question among pet owners especially since the breeding "designer dogs" became popular. It has been found that inbreeding even among two types of pure breeds can cause health concerns.

Many times you can tell if a dog has the same bloodline but other times it is not so obvious. In order to produce this new breed of dog it is necessary to combine two different blood lines. Many pet owners worry about the effects on the health of a breed produced this way. Crossing one breed of dog with another could very well end up delivering unhealthy puppies. A sad situation for all involved.

One very selfish thing that some breeders have been known to do is be more worried about the amount of profit they make while showing total disregard for the animal. I think you may agree this is unprofessional as well as an unethical route to take. Fortunately, most breeders are very concerned about their dogs health as well as the health of the offspring.

This is not to say that crossbreeding is unsuccessful, quite the contrary. I simply want to point out possibilities of adverse effects on our pet's health if this went too far. The fact is breeders have become quite successful in breeding several new types of dogs.

One of the new "designer dogs" in particular called the golden doodle. It seems that these designer dogs have become very popular and are in many homes across the nation. One of their biggest appeals is the fact they do not shed as much as many other dogs do.

Mixed breed dogs have been part of society and made wonderful pets since the beginning of time. It does however stand to reason that the further a dog is bred from it's initial bloodline the more chances for health problems. On the other hand it is true that full-blooded dogs have a shorter lifespan. Many would argue that a mixed breed dog does live a longer and healthier life.

Considering both types of pets there is no doubt both pros and cons exist with each choice. Mixed breeds are known as being very teachable, kind and eager to please which are all the makings of a loyal pet. Many of these characteristics are also found in purebreds. I think an important question to ask ourselves is how far should we go in designing our perfect pet? Some would say we may have already crossed that line with designer dogs. It seems somehow more acceptable when nature takes its course and produces a less than perfect bloodline as opposed to when humans get involved and try to create a "super pet."

Some pet owners prefer to know exactly what to expect when they get a pet. Knowing a certain breed has specific characterizes is helpful in choosing a pet. For example it is important for some owners to know how big their pet will be, if it will be kind and loving to children. It is also important to know how to take care of your particular pet. These things all come from knowing the type of or breed of your dog. For this reason it is easier to discern the type of dog you may want by choosing from the full blooded type.

What happens in nature by accident creates something quite different than the designer dog. This is because dogs who were mixed up...impure bloodlines if you will, are not the same as designer dogs because we know the bloodline of designer dogs. That is hardly ever entirely the case with other mixed breeds. Designer dogs are lucky in that there are two known set of genes.

Designer dogs are found in many homes across the nation. The only question that remains is, have we determined if we will able to maintain the health protection of these designer dogs? Designer dogs have obviously become very popular and make perfect pets. However, it is important that we continue to care for our pets and always be mindful of how these experiments in breeding will ultimately affect our pets health.
