There has recently been a study conducted involving the social network Facebook. It is being said that the network has been tied to members feeling fat and to severe eating disorders.
In this study, which was conducted in Maryland, 600 Facebook users between the ages of 16-40 were surveyed. Over half of the people who participated in the survey stated that the Facebook social network makes them more self conscious about the way that they look. This being due to the photos of them which are posted.
Of those surveyed, 78% of the women reported that they see themselves over weight and that they wish to lose weight. As for the men who took part in the survey, 58% said that they too would like to lose weight. The survey also found that 40% of the men have at some point, posted negative comments about their body, as did 20% of the women.
It was reported that that this is keeping people from doing the things that they normally do, such as going out with friends. The reason being that they don't want to have their picture taken and then posted on Facebook for the world to see. Chances are, if you go out with a group of friends, someone will get a picture and that picture will end up on someones Facebook profile.
Also stated is that Facebook is an influential factor in people developing some severe eating disorders. Users see these photos posted on Facebook that they aren't happy with. Every time they log in those pictures are there and seeing them is causing some to go on very unhealthy diets. Some of these unhealthy eating habits can lead to serious eating disorders which can then lead to serious health conditions.
If your are self conscious about the way that you look, and losing weight is something that you wish to do, there are proper ways to go about it. Cutting yourself off from eating is not the answer. That will lead to serious health conditions and malnutrition. The right way to go about losing weight is with a healthy diet and exercise. Not only will you get better results, but you will feel better physically as well as mentally.
