Live Today Like it Was Your Last!

It was a very inspiring story that a friend of mine sent me a while back, it was titled "Breakfast at McDonalds". Maybe some of you received it, it was sent through email. Basically, it was about a woman and her two children who were at McDonalds one day and were gracious enough to help some homeless men that didn't have enough money to buy a hot meal.

And like I said, it was a very inspiring story, but is this story so special because of the rarity of the action of the woman and two children? I sure as hell hope not! I would hope that there are numerous stories similar to this one that occur every day!

My thought after reading it was, isn't this the way we should be at every moment of our lives? And don't think for a instant that I'm implying,? that I'm ANY better than anyone else, God knows I'm not, but maybe just a little more compassionate to my fellow man or a bit more aware of these men's situation because of my current financial crisis

.

This is what frustrates me to no end, I try to, when I can, which is very rare nowadays, try and do this kind gesture on a daily basis. Not too awful long ago, before my shop burned down, I would practically look for people like these two homeless men to "reassure them" that there IS hope and there are good people left in this screwed up world and that not everyone is only "out for themselves".

Not that long ago, maybe 6 months or so, I had recieved, which was for me at the time, a lot of money, about $300, I was in San Antonio Texas driving on the feeder road near Callahan and 410, waiting for the light to change, when I looked over to my far left and saw a "homeless" man standing on the opposite side of the freeway at the stop sign, desperately hoping someone would hand him a few bucks so he could possibly get a hot meal for the day. I had this overwhelming ambition to somehow get to him and give him the money he needed to get that meal, but I was in the wrong lane to just turn the corner and hand it to him. I had to go straight and to the next intersection, make the turn around and find him on the way back going in the opposite direction I was going to begin with. But when I got there, he was gone, he had move to the very corner I had been at at the time I first saw him. Again, I couldn't just turn and hand him the money, I had to, again, drive down to the next intersection and make the turn around so I could catch him. But, again, he was gone! I quickly scanned the entire area to see where in the hell he went! There he was, on the corner, right in front of me, but I was in the turn lane and couldn't get to him! So I made the left turn, went back around again so I could go straight at the light and catch him at the corner where he was standing. When I got back around and went straight at the light, of course, he was gone again! I pulled into the conveinant store on the corner where he had been, hoping he had possibly gone into the store. I went in and looked around but no such luck, he was not in the store. Right at the time I was just about to give up I said, God, I tried, I really really tried to help this guy, but apparently, it wasn't meant to be. But then, there he was, sitting on a bench about 30 ft away! I walked over to him and I cheerfully said, "man, your a hard man to find", and I handed him a twenty dollar bill. He politely stuck out his hand, with tears in his eyes and took the twenty dollars. You'd thought I'd have handed him a million dollars by his reaction, and he said, "Thank you and God bless you, I lost my job, my family, my house, everything I've ever worked so hard for". He turned and walked away, tears streeming down his face, as I, myself had tears in my eyes as well.

I'm not sure if there is a moral to this story other than the fact that any of us, at any given moment, could lose everything we work so hard to have, including our family, so, remember this story and live each day like it's the last day of your life, as you know it! Thanks David!
