Ever wondered why successful people continue to flourish in whatever they do? That’s because they always have their minds set on the word SUCCESS. That thought keeps lurking somewhere in their sub-conscious so much that they could be described as restless. I decided to do a little fact-finding to see if this is true. Well, I did not look too far! Right in my household is a hard-working gospel singer and composer. My wife had been a lead vocalist in the choir of my church even before I met her. She composes and arranges as the need arises. In one whole week that I watched her closely, she spent her free time practicing a new song, editing some lines of lyrics or even putting new compositions together. She engaged my son, who also plays the keyboard, for help and guidance. While in the kitchen doing what she does best, she was also busy singing her new compositions. When she wasn't sure of a line, she checked with someone and then practiced, practiced and practiced, using every available resource until she perfected the song. That made me conclude the reason she’s at the top of her game in gospel music singing is the consciousness of nothing but the best output (Mindset of Success).
I took this outside of my immediate environment and did a mental survey of popular icons around us. My immediate thought went to names like Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Bill Gates, New York Mayor Bloomberg, Michael Dell and many more. These individuals did not just dream of becoming successful but they worked hard enough to make it happen. As successful as Oprah Winfrey is, she was in the news lately about how she does a "million things" at the same time. This immediately brought Thomas Gaines quote that, “It is good to dream, but it is better to dream and work. Faith is mighty, but action with faith is mightier.” It didn’t matter how long, but these successful business moguls knew where they were going and had the road map of getting there. Tony Robbins said it so well, in my opinion that, “The path to success is to take massive, determined action.” Sometimes that action may not be pleasing to friends and family members, but the path you choose, as long as it is legal, is not about them. It’s about you and your future; therefore you just need to stick with it. Michael Dell, founder of Dell computers dropped out of college to pursue his dreams. I am sure that action in itself did not please his parents, but the rest is now history.
I have also noted that those with a mindset of success have the following traits common to them:
- They never quit until the job is done. They start and finish.
- They only hang out with those of similar or better traits. No wonder Bill Gates follows 156 people out of his over 12 million twitter followers. What’s the point being friends with those who will not inspire you to be the very best?
- They do what they believe in. They never follow the rat race.
- They see results as outcome of effort, not inspiration. They work hard to get the result.
- No procrastination in their lives.
I hope this has benefited you in anyway. I welcome comments or questions.
