The book, The Four Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss is another highly recommended book. Next to The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson it is probably one of the best books on self development and finance I have ever read.
In actual fact I would probably put them in a tie as 1a and 1b.
I have to admit though that I was skeptical when I read the title as I know friends who are in the internet marketing field. Like most they started off working jobs they didn't like and spent about five to six hours a night on weekdays and often up to twenty hours on the weekend to be able to get to where they didn't have to work their jobs anymore.
But he showed where, if you're in the right kind of job, you can set up remote work agreements. He does also make sure you realize that you need to increase your productivity over what you perform in the office and how it helps the employer.
For people in internet marketing who still feel as though they're chained to the email inbox and smartphones and computer he gives great advice on how to get out of this prison through virtual assistants. That way you can truly own a business as opposed to the business owning you.
Ferriss' approach to personal finance is similar to one of Robert Kiyosaki of the Rich Dad empire of books fame where you should expand your life style and not cut back. One seemingly opposite to David Bach's approach where in his books all debt is bad debt if you don't have a realistic plan to pay it off.
I say seemingly as Ferriss doesn't recommend any reckless spending. He says if you want a Ferrari figure out what the monthy costs will be for the lease and then when you have income that will cover the costs of the lease and still leave money left over for other things.
My approach while I work towards working only four hours a week will be to get my debts paid off while saving for my own mini retirements. After all I believe that being out of debt will help towards that as it will relieve stress.
And it is true that all of the debt pay back writers and those that espouse the approach to live within your means or live below your means have expanded their lives with the books they teach.
Unlike the Kiyosaki aproach in the Rich Dad books Ferriss actually gives you a plan on how to accomplish getting down to the four hour work week without having to spend another six thousand dollars or more on training.
While the Rich Dad books are inspirational, The Four Hour Work Week is that and then some.
There are plenty of ways to learn how to set yourself up and learn how to get a business up and running. Now go out and make it a great day.
