Many people love sports. They love the suspense of a game and the cheering crowd. While watching "The Big Bang Theory" on a stormy evening, for example, they might see a commercial advertising an upcoming game between their favorite team and an opponent. After learning about the game, some will give their house a thorough cleaning, make or buy some great snacks for the event, and call their family and friends to invite them over to share the excitement. Others will enjoy the game by themselves. Some even enjoy their televised sports so much that they take the day off from work to enjoy them. There are at least a couple of reasons why people might want to stay home from work to watch a game.
One reason may be because the sport is what they love. They love it so much that nothing, even a job that supports their livelihood, will stand in the way. To them, the game comes first, and everything else is secondary. There is also another reason why people might want to stay home to see a game.
The other reason why people might choose to stay home to see the sport that they love is because they know that others out there are watching the same game at the same time that they are watching it. This knowledge gives them a sense of companionship.
Since most managers would not consider watching sports to be an acceptable reason to miss work, however, people will usually call in sick. Supervisors do not want employees who are sick to come to work and make everyone else sick. Therefore, they accept the excuse and allow their employee to have the day off, presumably to get over his illness and get well.
What the supervisor does not know, however, is that the employee is having a fun day at home while his coworkers are busy with their tasks at work. The sick employee might be watching favorite movies, such as "Legally Blonde", "Men in Black", or "The Pacifier", while their coworkers are busy answering telephones and dealing with customers.
Be careful if you decide to stay home to catch your favorite sporting event. Your supervisor might figure out what you are up to. If you do decide to skip work to watch the game, however, your supervisor and your coworkers may see a new you when you return to work--someone who is refreshed, happier, eager to help, and ready for another day.
Not sure I would miss work to watch sports. Here's a no-no: don't stay home and FB if your team wins...likely to get the boss's attention then. :)
Getting on Facebook to talk about the game would definitely get people in trouble. I wouldn't stay home to watch a game, either. Jobs are hard to get, and I would not want to risk being fired. Thanks for reading!! :)
