Saving money to buy a home is no easy task. Heck, saving money for anything these days is no easy task. But if you are truly serious about saving your money for what could be the biggest invetment you make in your lifetime, purchasing a home can be done. It can be done it you are disciplined in e way you save your money and are willing to sacrifice in doing so.
Disciplined Savings
1.First, you must set up a special, seperate savings account at your bank. Special, in that, it must be an account that earns interest and does not allow for withdrawals. Visit the bank you do your business with and set up this type of account. Once established, be very disciplined in making deposits.
2.Deposit regularly. This is where you must be extremely disciplined. Determine a set amount out of every paycheck you get and put it in this savings account you have set up. It can be 5%,10%, or even 20% of each paycheck. What ever you feel comfortable setting aside is the most important aspect here, because, remember, you will not be withdrawing any of it from the account. This might be the most difficult disciplined savings method you will have to use, but it ultimately it will get you to where you need to be. Being a homeowner.
3.Ignore Financial Windfalls-If you are fortunate enough to receive a lump sum of cash in any form, put it into this savings account and pretend you never got it. Money from your tax returns and work bonuses, among other things, would fall into this category.
4.Everything Counts-From a penny to a quarter, that is. Empty your pockets full of spare change every night into the same place. A big jar, an empty coffee container, or the empty water cooler bottle you brought home from work. You can even bury in the backyard next to your dog's favorite bone. It will add up quick, trust me.
Sacrifice
1.Cut Back on Entertainment-We all work hard and certainly deserve to play hard. But playing hard does not have to be expensive. Skip dinners out at your favorite resturaunt for a month. Cut back on movie theater visits and DVD rentals. Anything worth having does not come without sacrifice. During this time, just imagine how that blu-ray movie is going to look on a 55 inch HDTV in the living room of your home.
2 No Impulse Shopping-Whether it is work or pesonal, buy only the items you need. Not the items you would like to have. Don't buy expensive toys like motorbikes or workout machines that help relieve your stress. Instead, engage in exercise that does not require expensive equipment. Remember, this sacrifice is only temporary. Once you are in your new home, go crazy and fill your basement with these things.
The American Dream of owning a home is still extremely acheivable. Down payments on FHA mortgage loan are still only 3% of the purchase price of a home. That's only $6,000 on a home that is priced at $200,000 That may seem like a lot, but if you are disciplined and sacrifice in your saving and spending, you have will have taught yourself how to save that amount, and, how to save for a home.
