It is widely recognised that there is a desperate need for more affordable housing across the UK and the issue is particularly poignant in the South East. Located just 19 miles from London, Slough is a bustling town in East Berkshire, where the demand for homes is high.
Slough is popular with buyers because of its close proximity to the city and good transport links. It is just a 20minute journey into London Paddington on the train and Heathrow is also about a 20 minute drive on the M4 and M25. It is also ideally located for people working in one of the many local technology companies.
In addition to being well located for an easy commute, Slough is also close to many beautiful places of interest. Black Park, Burnham Beeches and Ditton Park are all great places to enjoy the great outdoors, or you can enjoy a walk along the River Thames or through the Chiltern Hills. There are plenty of delightful local villages and the delights of London, Windsor, Marlow and Maidenhead are easy to access.
New Affordable Homes
Another advantage is that Slough offers more affordable housing options than other places in East Berkshire. The desirability of many Berkshire villages and towns has pushed house prices through the roof. Slough has a greater variety of properties and the town has committed to providing affordable homes, which are particularly attractive to first time buyers.
The good news is that 1,000 new homes are currently under construction on sites across the town. A great example is Milestone in Ledgers Road, where 73 new properties are due for completion this summer. The homes include one and two bedroom apartments, along with two and three bedroom homes and so offer ideal properties for professional couples and families.
Older Properties
Whilst a new and fully decorated home has great appeal to many people, others prefer older properties with period features. Slough also offers a good mix of Victorian terraces, 1930’s semi-detached properties on other popular styles.
One advantage of such properties is that they are more likely to include larger gardens and the potential for putting your own stamp on things. If you are considering the possibility of garage or loft conversions and extensions to increase the space and value of your home over time, let your estate agent know about your plans, so they can show you properties with potential.
