Camping In The Cold - Clothing

Cold weather camping is something that is kind of hit and miss. Some people really enjoy it while others despise the idea of leaving the comfort of their warm home. Cold weather camping can be enjoyed by all if the right precautions and planning is done. Clothing makes up a definite difference is a person's cold weather camping experience.

You need to have the correct gear to be safe while cold weather camping. This includes proper clothing. You need to dress in layers and have all of your extremities covered. Dressing in layers allows you to be able to add clothing and take away clothing if you get hot. You do not want to be too hot as your sweat will freeze and can cause more complications. It is extremely important that you wear a hat because a significant amount of body heat is lost through your heat. A hat or hood that covers your ears is a necessary as the wind can pull the heat away. You also need to make sure you have a good pair of boots or shoes that are going to provide enough insulation to you feet to prevent frost bite. Waterproof shoes are desirable as the melting of snow will make your feet wet. Having extra clothes and shoes to change out of when your close are wet is also something you need to take account for. An insulation liner is also nice to have. It helps to trap the heat close to your body and keep you warm.

There are different types of clothing depending on the intentions and conditions of your camping. You do not need gear that is designed for expeditions in Antarctica if you are just doing some basic cold weather camping, but your summer jacket is not going to hold up either. You do not have to spend lots of money on all new gear, but you do need to seriously evaluate the gear you have and determine if it will hold up to what you are exposing it to.

Your choice of clothing becomes a very important factor when cold weather camping. It can make the difference in warmth and frost bite. Without the proper gloves or shoes you could easily get your fingers or toes frost bitten. It is extremely important to be prepared for your circumstances when camping to avoid injury to yourself or others. Read more at our website.
