Swiss Gear's fight against dehydration centers on all of you that are outside enjoying this wonderful weather. If you are the outdoors type, who love to go hiking, off road or on road biking, walking, camping or just working outside on your yard, then you probably already know you need to keep plenty of water handy.
This is more for the people who occasionally spend a weekend outdoors and may not have the experience of having to protect one's self against dehydration. When you and your family are out on your vacation or just out for the day this summer, be aware of getting too much sun and not enough water. While you are out enjoying the day, hiking around some trails and just having fun with your family, are you aware that 5% of the people that go out in the nice weather today will die from dehydration. That statistic alone should be enough motivation for anyone to verify that everyone with you has and is drinking plenty of water.
Here is a list so that you can become familiar with some of the signs to alert you if someone is getting dehydrated; A Dry Mouth, Muscle Cramps, Eyes Stop Making Tears, Weakness, Light Headed When Standing Up, Nauseous and Vomiting, The Body stops Sweating, Heart Palpitations and Infrequent Urination.
If you discover that someone is dehydrated, start having them drink lots of water, try to keep them in the shade so their body temperature can cool down a little. This will help the body to start recovering by not having to sweat to cool down. If you are suffering from mild dehydration, this can correct itself in a day just by drinking liquids especially when you are thirsty. If the dehydration is allowed to go unchecked, this could lead to serious problems with your kidneys, urinary tract and some of your other organs. If you allow dehydration to continue and you lose more than 10% of your water weight, this will mostly likely kill you.
Swiss Gear has designed products that try to encourage people to always carry plenty of water with them by designing attractive products that encourage carrying water around with them like the waist packs that will hold 2 water bottles or the new hydration packs that come with a 2 liter bladder that holds water inside the pack and with most of their backpacks there is always a mesh to carry water bottles.
So when you are out in the warm weather this summer, take dehydration very seriously, use the products that are available and are designed to make it more convenient to keep hydrated. When you do stop for that periodic break, see that everyone in your party is drinking plenty of water and there are no early signs of dehydration.
