They say that finding the right career takes time because it doesn’t happen overnight; thus it takes years of making mistakes, working hard, changing bosses, meeting expectations, overcoming trials and endless sleepless nights of thinking, just thinking if this is really what you want.
Are your dreams finally coming true? Are you living the life that you have always dreamed of? Have you found self-fulfillment yet? If not, then you have not reached your destination. Of course we are all dreaming of a happy life, doing the job we love, being with our family, enjoying the simple luxuries that we are able to provide ourselves because of our careers, but to find a fulfilling career is not that easy. It should be the right fit, it should feel like you were made for the job and whenever you encounter problems at work, you just smile because you know you are going to get through and will still deliver amazing results by the end of the day. It should feel like you are in the right place at the right time. But how many people get to feel that; not that many perhaps.
When you find yourself unemployed because you recently quit your job, applying for a new one is not going to be that easy because there will always be the fresh graduates who have no experience but demand less compensation, and there are those who are as good as you with years of experience but probably have more advantage in skills and trainings than yourself. The labor market is like a jungle full of wild animals fighting for survival and you need to prove your worth to survive too.
You can’t afford to make another bad decision when choosing your career. Here are a few reminders when you are job hunting:
1. Consider your expertise –where do you really belong? Given your years of experience, find a new career that is related to your old one but will make your skills handy.
2. Find your happiness – perhaps the only thing that could make you happy and find self-fulfillment is to start a new career you know nothing about. It is never too late to chase your dreams because you only live once, but this move requires time and preparation. Make sure you have enough savings in the bank to finance your trainings and classes to prepare you for your new chosen career.
3. Reflect – spend a few days to reflect or just to clear your head to be able to see things clearly. Write down the pros and cons of your plans and weigh every decision to help you create the best strategy that could alter your life forever.
4. Seek advice – although nobody knows you better than yourself, sometimes talking to a few trusted people could really help, whether you just need to vent out or looking for an advice, it doesn’t matter. You need to let it all out, it helps.
Choosing a Career is never easy but with careful planning, you’ll eventually find what you are looking for, and you will never have to switch careers for the rest of your life again. All you need is just a little patience, determination, the right skills, and the perfect timing.
