Watch What You Say At Work

If you have a job, you know very well how it makes you feel. If you are usually very busy at work, time probably passes quickly for you. You may not notice your aches and pains until there is a lull in activity. When you have a few minutes with no customers to deal with, no phone calls to make, no meetings to go to, and no faxes to send, you notice them. Thinking that nothing will come of it, you might mention your aches to the coworker who works beside you. Keep your feelings to yourself, however.

Whether you work as a teacher, a secretary, a cashier, or in some other occupation, you need to watch what you say at work. One reason to watch what you say is because thousands of people are out of work, and they would trade places with you in a second. They would gladly take an aching back or sore feet if that was what it took for them to earn a living. By earning a living, they would be able to pay their bills and save for their dreams. By having a job, you are earning a living and gaining experience.

Another reason to avoid complaining at work is because complaining creates a negative atmosphere, which affects morale. If morale is low, employees will be unhappy and will not want to do their jobs. If they do not do their jobs, the entire company will get behind. Customers will then be unhappy, and the company will lose money when the customers take their business to the competitors.

A third reason to keep your negative feelings to yourself is because other people will overhear your complaints. The coworker that you just complained to will tell the supervisor. The supervisor will assume that because you are complaining, you do not want your job. He will then replace you. You do need to vent, however. Keeping negative feelings bottled up inside is unhealthy. How can you complain without affecting your job?

One way is to write about it in a journal. Your journal is your personal, private space to freely express your thoughts. Write about your aching feet and back. No one will see your complaints except you.

Another way to safely air your complaints is to talk to your pet. Do you have a dog, cat, fish, or hamster? Talk to it. Your pet will not go tattle to anyone at work. It will stay right there where you live. Since pets cannot talk, your job will be safe.

Be thankful that you have a job. Release your frustrations. Get a good night's sleep tonight. Then, tomorrow, go to work, be a productive, pleasant employee, and have a great day.
