For over a year, my liberal arts degree just collected dust. During a time in history which rewards experience and technical degrees more, I stood on the outside looking in. Although what I specifically learned as a liberal arts major (seriously, it seems like everyone knows politics inside and out today) does not apply, what skills I learned has transpired into tremendous helping me start an affiliate marketing career.
I believe the most obvious point of how I am using my liberal arts degree is by writing articles for affiliate marketing. I often refer to my degree as a "reading and writing" degree because of the tremendous amounts of reading and writing that goes into it. This bodes very well for people who want to fully utilize article marketing. Seeing as article marketing is 100% free, I am able to use that skill set to advertise my niche. Writing is the easiest part of affiliate marketing to me, once I know about what to write.
Another major aspect of using my liberal arts degree comes from research. Liberal arts people are very, very good at researching topics. Unlike the sciences, which experiment using the scientific method, we seek out information to come up with our own thesis. This skill helps us to research what to discuss for article marketing. With article marketing, I always want to find rich keywords, with low competition and that are relevant to your topic. I have spent years learning about that while in college, and now I have learned about an industry in which I have ability to use it to make real money.
Liberal arts major have a tremendous curiosity to learn more about our world. The world of affiliate marketing is very vast. With a curiosity to learn more, I can not only learn about expanding your niche, but expanding on techniques of how to drive more traffic to your site. The world of the internet marketing constantly changes; with an eye on how it changes, I will stay a step ahead of the changes. There are many, many ways of making money from affiliate marketing, and with that intellect curiosity of "how can I make more money", I will keep expanding.
I am an example of how liberal arts majors can use what we learned while in college to make money in this economy. Many employers may not care about the skills we learned in college, but we have to make it work for ourselves. These are skills with tremendous real world applicability, but we have to learn how to apply them. Human resource departments want to see experience and technical knowledge, so we have to adjust with the times. And right now that is to make it work for ourselves.
