Different cats will have different cat behaviour much like different humans will have varying behaviour. For example the 'tabby' cat that lives with my neighbor ( and has decided to adopt my house as well as his own ) is not at all phased by coming across an unfamiliar person. I often watch him through my living room window greeting strangers as they walk up the street.
Now the ( female ) cat that lives further down the street will jump into the nearest hedge when she sees anyone coming ( including myself ). I have tried time and time again to be nice to her but nothing takes. Some of these primary cat behaviour can be linked directly to the breed of the particular cat and whether it's a male or a female cat. It's behavior can also be directly linked to it's age in a lot of cases.
These differences make up the 'personality' we all like to give our pet cats. It's hard to really pin-point the cause of each breeds personality especially these days because of the constant cross-breeding that has gone on for centuries to this point. Most of the modern day cats are classed as 'mongrel' cats - this is where we get the lovable slang word 'moggie' from for our beloved pets.
Studies these days have ended up centering around various different 'factors' or specific 'elements' that make up the cats personality. For example a cat can appear to be a very 'inquisitive' animal - inquisitive is therefore considered one of these elements. More examples of these elements would be a friendly cat, a very vocal cat, a cat that displays an alert personality, you can also have a placid personality.
An example of these elements in work would be taken from the 'vocal' category. A lot of domestic, common day cats would not be considered that vocal and maybe their cat behaviour will seem a little alert and even timid. Now, at the other end of the spectrum you will come across the Siamese cat behaviour. These cats are considered to be very, very vocal.
Most kittens learn a lot about the surrounding world the first two months of their life. It is within this time that they learn that human traits are not to harm them. They figure out pretty quickly humans ( owners ) are not a threat to them and bond really quickly. Whilst cat behaviour may seem very strange at times all cat behaviour can be linked to the elements listed here and the most dominant breed in their makeup.
