Cat Scratch Tree - Cat Behavior

Many different aspects of cat behavior can be combated with the introduction of a cat scratch tree but why do cats behave in the manner they do? For starters why do they purr - I always assume it's because the cat is happy with it's lot at a specific time. That is fairly correct but recently I had it pointed out to me that purring is also an attempt by the cat of communication with you ( seriously! ). On a sad note I was also pointed out that a really unwell cat or a cat on it's last legs will also purr to reassure themselves whilst dying.

A lot of people jump at a cat scratch tree as an option to solve a cat's behavior before they attempt to take the time to find out why their cat is acting in such a manner. Understanding your cat will lead to a much healthier relationship between owner and animal. Cat behavior can be strange but if you look into the reasoning behind it instead of jumping at the opportunity to purchase a cat tree things will go a little easier for you.

For example, cats always seem to rub their faces as soon as they get comfortable - why is this? They also seem to rub up against every piece of furniture and wall in the house. It's hard to pin-point exactly why they do this but there are a few suggestions. For example cats have odor glands in their chin and all over the top of their heads, when their is more than one cat in the group they constantly rub up against each other ( note: a cat scratch tree can be if you own more than one cat ). Once they know each others smell it will help them discover when a trespasser enters their group.

A great use for a cat scratch tree is to eliminate the sometimes painful experience of 'kneading'. So what is kneading? You know when a cat jumps onto your lap and is about to lie down and get comfortable they perform a sort of ritual of sticking their claws into your lap. Painful at times I know. Cats basically do it as a way to produce more milk from their mother when they are kittens, it's perfectly natural and they will continue to do it for the remainder of their lives. The material on a cat scratch tree is perfect for cats to knead on.

So cat behavior whilst sometimes strange can be semi-avoided with introduction of a cat scratch tree to it's surroundings. You can purchase a commercial cat scratch tree or you can construct your own cat scratch tree - it's your choice.
