Are you looking for a flea medicine kittens under 12 weeks of age can use? If you have a new kitten under 12 weeks of age, it is not recommended for you to use a chemical flea product on them. The chemicals in products for cats over 12 weeks of age or even ones that state "safe for kittens over 6 weeks". are really not the best way to treat your new little kitten.
There are very effective remedies that will kill the fleas without having to use flea medicines on kittens. I am going to walk you through some very good flea remedies that will not compromise the health of your kitten.
Giving your kitten a safe flea bath: You don't need to use a flea shampoo with chemicals to kill the fleas on your kitten. You can use Dawn dish soap and a salt water mixture of, 1/3 cup of table salt to every 4cups of warm water.
Fill your sink or tub with enough warm water that your kitten can be fully submerged in the water except for their head. Add the table salt accordingly following the recipe above. Take your Dawn dish soap and put a thick line of the soap starting at the base of the kittens neck, right behind the ears and going straight down to the tail.
Rub the soap gently but effectively right down to your kittens skin. Continue massaging the soap on your kitten for about 5 minutes. Make sure that the soap covers your kittens entire body, including the belly, legs and neck. Now, put your kitten into the water, leaving the head sticking out and massage the soap out of your kittens coat in the salt water.
After the soap is rinsed you are going to continue massaging your kittens body while in the salt water, be careful of the kittens eyes the soap and salt water may sting if it gets in their eyes. You may be seeing the fleas trying to come out around your kittens face, just use your hand and push the fleas back down to the water, you are drowning the fleas.
Take your kitten out of the water and dry them completely with a towel. You want their fur as dry as possible for the next step of the flea removal.
Flea combing your kitten: Now that your kitten has had a safe flea bath, you are going to use a flea comb to remove any flea debris and dead fleas that didn't come off during the bath.
First fill a bowl with warm water and put a few squirts of dish soap into the bowl without mixing it up. Starting at the back of your kittens ears you are going to full comb strokes straight down to the tail. After every comb through rinse the flea comb in the water to get any debris and fleas off of it before doing it again. Continue doing this until your kittens entire body has been flea combed, this includes the belly and neck areas as well.
You have just given your kitten a safe and effective flea treatment without using any harsh flea medicine kittens shouldn't come in contact with.
You should treat your home and any areas that your kitten likes to play, sleep or just relax. There are many all natural flea treatments and home-made remedies that are safe and chemical free while still effectively removing the fleas and all of their life stages from your home.
