Once a week, I trim my two cats Skiibowski the male cat and Milky his sister's claws. "Wow is this a hard job". I can't get them declawed and I hate the scratches they have done on all my furniture. The first time I did this, I was a little nervous because of never doing it before, I was afraid I was going to cut them down to far.
I read up on how to do it but it is hard to see. Online it said to cut right at the pink part, the claw goes from white to pink. So my boyfriend Tom will hold them why I cut. Lol, this is a joke! They are scratching him and trying to climb up his body to get away because they hate it.
I am laughing but frustrated. There has to be an easier task than the way we are doing it. I was thinking of getting those rubber tips you glue on their claws and they last 3 months and Tom thinks it is a silly idea but if you want to try go buy them. I said well we are trying to train them but I can't follow them around all day just to make sure they are not using my furniture as scratching post and it is better than getting them declawed since we can't anyway.
We trimmed Skiibowki by bribing him with treats but he still knows we are up to something and is real wiggly. Milky is a monster, I hate trying to do her, this is why I won't hold her because I like to keep my body and face scratch free! So Tom can hold them. You would think I am trying to cut her tail off or something, it reminds me of a Tom and Jerry Cartoon.
I know it is not right to get them declawed, but sometimes I wish we can but we can't because we signed the agreement from the shelter to keep their claws. Even if you cut them down, they still scratch so after I get these rubber tips, I will let you know I made out with them in my next article.
I got to do 3 paws on Milky and never made it to the fourth paw because she ran away and hid. I feel bad but I want to keep them groomed. There claws do get too long and are so sharp. Sometimes they play with you and do not realize that they have just drawn blood from you.
Saturday night I made chicken cutlets an italian thing and I gave my boyfriend a bite to try and he bit my damn pointer finger, "I seen stars". Not even 20 minutes after that I was walking up the stairs and had my hand on the railing and Skiibowski clawed my middle finger. I said what the hell is this? "Mess up Katie finger night"!
So I washed my hands and said I'm not doing anything for the rest of the night, but where his claw dug and stuck in me this made me realize how often I really need to trim there claws.
I do not envy you the job! Lucky that ours rarely scratch the furniture so not a problem. I remember reading a very funny item about how to give a cat a pill which started out simple but ended up with the owner in full body armour! Our cats spend time outdoors so need claws for climbing. Probably do most of their scratching there too.
Yes, I was thinking of buying them a leash to let them see the outside but only walk them in the front and back yard. Maybe as they get older, they will get better.
