I look around all the time and I grow more and more concerned daily with what many of us as parents and grandparents are doing to our children. Children learn from their parents. They are professional copy cats. Grandparents on the other hand tend to be much more forgiving and relaxed with their grandchildren then they were with there children. Grandparents want their children to be happy and content and to remember the fun they had while they were with them and tend to bend the no no's.

I see more and more parents relying on fast food service to fill their children's hungry stomachs. I had to sit and think just why this is. I know that we as a society are on a faster schedule.We are doing things quicker. We are running a faster rat race, in all aspects of our lives, weather it be work or play. We do not know how to take off our watches, and quit watching the clocks and just relax. I know first hand that employers are downsizing causing those left in the work force to handle more responsibilities at work, in turn causing them to perhaps put in later and or longer hours and this also increases our stress levels. If you are a woman or man and are responsible for getting food to your children you don't want to get out of work and come home to try to fix dinner, after all it IS late, you are tired and the children are screaming for food. There is baths, laundry, house cleaning, homework and the list is endless. Or, maybe you just don't know how to cook a nutritious meal. Whatever the reason being It is easier or lets say much more convinent to just stop and pick up fast food. Let's not forget all those prepared meals that we bought at the store last week. It is so very quick to pop them and in the microwave, and we are good to go. My problem with this is the sodium content. We need to start reading labels and taking responsibility for what we are feeding our children and putting in our own mouths. This answers your need to have food quickly and your children's need because they are loving it.

My granddaughter who is 4 years old has it all figured out. We will frequently hear her say, "I want fry fries, chocolate milk and chicken nuggets with ranch dressing. If I had a dollar for every time she has said this I would be rich. We have to pass a McDonald's going and coming from church on Sundays and you can just see her little eyes widden and her mouth drool. She will always say, "Please Grandma, please, can't we get some fry fries, chocolate milk and chicken nuggets"? My heart breaks for her when I tell her, "some other time sweetie, we are going to eat at home today because Grandma has fixed a roast." She then says, "UGH". She does not eat much because she is not taught to sit and eat on a routine basis. I am not blaming this entirly on my children. I am blaming this on society as a whole. With all of the new electronics and computers it is supposed to make our lives much more simplified and relaxed. Instead, it is making us run even faster. It is making things more complex. And, our children are paying the price.
