Lesser - Known Times When Wholesale Sweets Sell Faster

Major holidays like Christmas and Halloween are when confectioners around the world stock up big on wholesale sweets and chocolates. At times like these, demand for the sweet stuff is, of course, at its peak.

Yet there are certain times when these products tend to sell better even without being around the time of major holidays. Here are a few of the lesser-trumpeted occasions that are worth keeping in mind, when sweets and confections tend to sell well – from novelty pieces to fine confectionery for more formal events.

1. St. Patrick’s Day – This distinctly Irish feast is celebrated every 17th of March and is more often associated with beer and the colour green than with candy! However, wholesale sweets see an uptick in sales when they fit in with the theme of St. Patricks. Sweets in green packaging, shamrock-shaped candies, chocolate liqueurs – these are some of the items that sell particularly well during this time.

2. April Fools – The 1st of April is dedicated to pranks and tomfoolery. Confectionery sells surprisingly well during this time, especially novelty items with a bit of mischief involved. From “Russian Roulette” chocolates with peppers inside them, to oodles of marshmallows for fluffy pranks, this is a time where confectioners can sell the more unique candies to a mischievous consumer base!

3. May Day – The 1st of May is dedicated not only to honouring labour but also to herald the beginning of the spring season. The festivities of May Day are not to be ignored, and the sales of wholesale sweets tend to rise as people see them as an easy solution to make celebrations more festive and appealing.

4. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day – Mother’s Day falls on the 10th of May each year, while Father’s Day falls on the 15th of June each year. Fine confectionery is a pretty popular choice for gifts on these dates, so prepare to stock up well beforehand.

5. Spring – The months of March, April and May are typically wise times to replenish stock of wholesale sweets, as a lot of parties and weddings take place during these months. People will be looking for safe and reliable gifts for their hosts as well as for newly-wedded couples, so make sure your shelves are stocked with finer confectionery during these months.

6. Graduation Season – Mid-May to mid-July is graduation season, where university students celebrate their rite of passage into the workforce. Parties and celebrations will, of course, abound – so lots of sweets and chocolates will be purchased during this time.

7. Post-Valentine's – Curiously, two to eight weeks after Valentine's Day can be a busy time for the sale of sweet treats. Valentine's is a day dedicated to romantic love and two to eight weeks is when expectant mothers start craving particular foods – like candies and chocolates. You connect the dots.

Keep all these dates in mind and you’ll be able to stay ahead of the demand in confectionery.
