Besides being in top travel ranks, with all the monuments of the past, fashionable shopping districts and grand-looking squares, Madrid has also a number of places, less visited and less known about, but still potentially attractive for tourists. The variety of museums in the city does not end on Prado or other wealthy art galleries, as well as not all statues and monuments dispersed over the neighborhood depict legendary public and historic figures, ever lived or worked in Madrid. That is why this article is written to give coverage to the most depreciated must-visit places of interest in this city.

Trencher-men are often interested in Museo del Jamon that is on Grand Via 72. It is a fact of common knowledge that jamon appears to be traditional snack in Spain, alike to ham on the West, but prepared using special recipes. Museum, in particular, is a shop where, allegedly, you can find any sort of ham, which only exists in the world. In addition, the ham can be immediately tasted, served, of course, with a glass of delicious beer.

One more unique museum in Madrid is Convent of the Barefoot Nuns. In sober fact, it is the best sighting to perceive the atmosphere of the city in the Middle Ages period. The convent was founded in the 16th century by Juana de la Cruz. Specifically, it was designed for nuns descended from honorable families. The first ones made vows not to wear shoes or boots, thus providing an obvious title for the convent. They gifted all worthy and rich things they had had to finance the monastery. In the 1960s it was opened to the public, and tourists were shocked with internal richness of the convent halls and interior.

Good trencher-man is always in search of culinary exquisites, especially when travelling. In Madrid, it might be related to trying the most of tapas dishes and the best of Spanish wine. However, why not to accommodate in the oldest restaurant in the whole world, which is situated pretty much close to the main square in the city – Plaza Mayor. Certainly, one could notice El Botin restaurant on Cuchilleros 17, but there is no way to figure out it was established as long ago as 1725. Thereby, it truly deserved a pot in Guinness World Records. Regardless, the menu of El Botin is not the only hallmark of the place; it is appropriate to underline it still runs three hundred stove that is still fired with actual wood, thereby giving a special flavor to dishes.

The other memorable thing about El Botin is a memorial board, featuring the dates when young Goya, later big name Spanish painter, washed dishes in restaurant’s kitchen.
