We clean our car surface almost every week and give it occasionally for an automatic or manual green car wash. But rarely do we think about cleaning the car engine. Being the internal part of the car, and being not exposed, we do not give a thought to clean it. Engine is a mechanic part and the most operative part of the car. Oil and dirt gets accumulated on the engine surface and it is very necessary to clean it often to ensure that you get the ultimate performance from your car. One should have good knowledge about how to wash a car engine, before beginning with this skilled job.
On opening on your car bonnet, you can see that there will be a good load of dirt and grease attached to the engine components. To loosen the stickiness of this, the first step of warming the car engine has to be done. Make sure that you make it just enough, safe to touch. If it has become too hot, allow it to cool for a while before you go on to the next step. The engine has certain sensitive areas like air intake valve, engine distributor coil, plug wires, air filters. Cover these areas with plastic bags and fasten it in place with rubber bands. This kind of sealing will prevent water entry into these parts and prevent any possible shorts. Before beginning the cleaning process, check that all the caps like windshield washer fluid cap, oil filler cap, power steering filler cap etc is tightly set to prevent any water entry.
Now, brush off any loose dirt particles with a simple brush. The next step is to remove the grease settled in the engine parts. A degreaser should be used specifically for this purpose. Apply the degreaser using a sprayer or brush onto every nook and corner of your car engine. While choosing the degreaser from the store, choose a biodegradable and non-petroleum based one, as they work best and are also eco-friendly. After a few minutes, when the job of the degreaser is done, wipe it off. Repeat if there is more sticky grease on the engine. When all the grease is removed, clean thoroughly with water but make sure that water does not enter the sensitive areas.
After the water wash, you can see for yourself how clean your engine has become. Now you can remove the covered parts carefully, still making sure that water finds no way into these. Then you can warm up your engine to evaporate off all the excess water on the surfaces and on sensitive components. Now, if you want your car engine to look handsome enough, you can apply a rubber coating on the rubber surfaces except the underside of the rubber belts. While using the degreaser, it would have removed all the wax coating from the painted areas. After the car engine cleaning procedure, these surfaces should be waxed to prevent it from rusting. Finally do a complete check of the engine. Check the battery terminals and correct if there be any loose ends or dirt. You can even use a battery terminal protector to prevent corrosion of the terminal wires.
Now, that your engine is perfectly clean, wash your car exterior and go for a drive and enjoy the experience of driving and realize the difference. If you like, you can use environment friendly green car wash.
