You have cleaned out your closets, swept and mopped your floors, and donated boxes of clothing, books, and toys to charity. Your spring cleaning is almost done, but there is one thing that you missed: your refrigerator. Open it, and see what you find.
First, check the shelves. Pull everything out, and set it aside. Wipe the shelves with soap and water, and then put the items back, checking the dates as you go. If anything has spoiled, throw it away. If you have a pitcher of water in your refrigerator, dump out the water, wash the pitcher, refill it with fresh water, and then put it back. It will be helpful to have cold water on hand when the weather warms up during the coming months.
Next, check the drawers. Pull everything out, checking for spoiled sandwich meat, moldy fruit, and anything else that needs to be thrown away. Then wipe out the drawers and put everything back.
Finally, close the door and check the outside of the refrigerator. Remove everything that has been posted there, and wipe down the door. Look for outdated notices and other old materials, and throw these items away. Items that are still current can be put back on the door once it has dried. Now, stand back and look at your work. You have a sparkling clean refrigerator.
One thing that you have accomplished by cleaning your refrigerator is that you have made sure that the food in it is still good and will not make you sick. That way, you can stay healthy and avoid missing work, school, and important events in your life. By being healthy, you can be at your best. You can give an excellent speech in speech class, rather than a mediocre one--a speech that will hopefully get an A. You can perform at your best at work, so that your boss and coworkers will love having you around, will hate to see you leave, and will look forward to the day you are scheduled to come back.
Another thing that you have accomplished is that you have gotten organized. You now know where to find the food that you will need in order to fix meals and prepare lunch for work. By being organized, you will save yourself some time. By saving some time in the kitchen, there will be more time available for other important things, like commuting to work, exercise, family time, and sleep.
Our fridge never needs spring cleaning according to my wife, I eat it clean all the time. The "What happened to those ......... I put in here?" questions normally answer by me with "I ate that long ago" Great article Hollie.
