Every now and again we notice the mess that our houses are in and decide to look for some clutter solutions. But where do we start? It's a little overwhelming when you realize the amount of clutter you have built up. Paper tends to be the biggest culprit when it comes to clutter. At once you have find a place in the house and keep this space for the incoming paperwork. Basically get your self a physical inbox ( like what your email has ).
The paper should be one of the first clutter solutions you embark on. The second is a 'no clutter zone'. You need this - make no mistake. Once this zone is up and running no clutter is allowed into it. This is where your declutter project - it can be anywhere ( where there's clutter obviously ). The idea is to let this no clutter zone expand outwards to devour you whole house - work outwards from the no-clutter zone.
One of the clutter solutions I like best is the 'counter-clearing' technique. Basically, clear your counters of anything you don't need. Some counters will have a kettle or phone for example on them, this is fine - you use these constantly. If you have for an example an ice cream maker your auntie gave you one birthday. This ice cream maker is out on a kitchen counter and lets face it, you're never going to use it. It takes to long to mix up ans you can't be bothered to clean it afterwards - it's just a waste of space.
If you plan in advance when you are going to declutter then you are much more likely to have a successful cleaning spree. If you do it on the spur of the moment you might lose heart very quickly. Mark off a couple of days ( maybe a weekend ) on your diary and stick to it. Treat it like a day in work - you can't pull out of your day job and so chances are you'll stick to the date set.
Clutter solutions can be difficult to carry through because of emotional bonds. Out of all the clutter solutions I have read about 'charity' seems to be the biggest aid. Charity shops are everywhere these days and are a perfect place to leave your unwanted items. Once they have been donated to a charity shop they are gone - you can't ask for them back so the bond with the items are broken.
