Declutter Garage

You often hear people describe how they need to declutter their home but how often do you hear about someone who needs to declutter garage - not many I bet, but how many people would you say actually need to. I'd say most people's garages are a disaster zone when compared to every other outbuilding or building they own.

It's amazing how many families cars are parked out on the street when a perfectly good garage sits not more than ten meters away full of your father-in-laws golf clubs and half a dozen picnic hampers. You need to declutter garage to get the car back in it's rightful space. First of all pick a sunny ( or calm weathered ) day to declutter garage. Pull everything ( and I mean everything ) out onto the drive/lawn/yard and be ruthless.

Decide and separate everything up into what you actually want to keep and what you want to get rid of. In the US they have things called 'yard sales'. These are basically like 'jumble sales' or 'boot sales' and they will give you the opportunity to get rid of a large percentage of things you do not want and make a little extra cash at the same time.

A nightmare of most people's garages is the way they often turn into an electrical graveyards. Everything ends up in there, from the old toaster and kettle to the broken down tumble dryer you've promised your wife you are one day going to fix. If things really are broken then don't think about spare parts - if you truly want to declutter garage then get rid of all spare parts ( even donate them to a mate that actually can and wants to fix the items ).

Only keep what you need - rule number one when it comes to declutter garage. There may be a dolls house or another woodworking D.I.Y. project nestling in one of the corners of the garage, are you really going to finish it? How long has it taken you to get this far with it? Be realistic, your not going to finish it are you - get rid.

My old favorite is plain and simple - there are always people worse off than you and that is why charity shops exist. Declutter garage and donate everything not needed or wanted to a charity shop, it's that simple. By decluttering your stuff you are also helping out others - win win.
