It is considered the car is strictly men's territory, but some parts of it can be best treated by a woman. I'm talking about the upholstery. Although men are very careful when it comes to their ride, they tend to scamp things and they don't use the right cleaning supplies. So you can offer your services and be sure you will be rewarded. Men find women who are interested in cars extremely attractive and if you know a thing or two about these vehicles, make sure your man will love you forever.
Leave your man to take care for the engine and you head to the store for supplies. You can't treat the car upholstery with the commercial products you use for the living-room sofa. If you are dealing with a leather upholstery, it's pretty easy. Just go to a leather store and ask the salesman for some saddle soap and conditioner. Make sure you mention that you need the supplies for car upholstery because they are different from those for leather jackets or boots.
First you will have to thoroughly vacuum all the seats, even the hard to reach areas. Then use a damp cloth to remove any remaining dust and dirt. You will see if there are any stains and if so, use the saddle soap to remove them. All you have to do is rub it in and leave it for ten minutes, then wipe it with damp towel and apply conditioner. Keep in mind that leather car upholstery has to be conditioned more frequently than furniture one, because it is exposed to intensive sunlight.
Another upholstery fabric you may encounter is velvet. Smooth and beautiful, it has to be cleaned in a specific way and only with dry detergents because it is moisture sensitive and very delicate. For this I recommend you to go to a specialized car shop and ask for the required solution. Dry detergents have to be agitated for the chemicals to react with the stain, so you will need a towel or a rag. My advice is to use less than the prescribed amount because in most cases stains are not so tough.
If there aren't any stains and you just want to remove dirt and freshen the upholstery, you will need tights. Don't look so surprised it is used to prevent damage to the delicate velvet upholstery. One you are done with the vacuuming it is time for freshening. Get a bucket of water and add some nice smelling dish washing detergent or liquid soap. Use a sponge to apply to the surface and be careful not to saturate the area.
Get a clean dry towel and gently blot to remove any excess residue and moisture. Open the doors to allow the fabric to dry naturally and you are done. Of course all of this can be done by cleaning professionals, but believe me when I say your man will be delighted from your attention to one of his most treasured belongings.
