Tips For Avoiding Houston Carpet Cleaning Scams

An article everyone who is going to use a service should read.

Whether or not it is a home or commercial property. If you are hiring to have your carpets cleaned, it is always good to know what kind of company you are dealing with. After all, they might be coming in to your home or business touching your things, moving furniture and more. On top of that, if you hire a Houston Carpet Cleaning company that says $10 per room, it could end up costing you even more money. This goes for any business or service. (I.e computer repair, plumbing, etc.)

Sure, lot's of carpet cleaning companies say "$10 per room". But how much are you really going to spend?

For example: Jim says "We steam cleaned your house for $10 per room.

"We also deodorized your carpets, that will be another $15 per room extra."

"Did I mention we had to remove some heavier stains, that will be another $15 per room."

You are now spending about $150 more than what was quoted.

The list for these types of "Bait and switch" schemes go on and on, and gives honest Houston Carpet Cleaning companies a bad name.

So how do you avoid companies like these?

Step 1: Look for their client history One of the main rules for choosing a good service company is to look online for local reviews and see what they say. This will definitely give you an idea of how many clients they are getting. (One review can mean 100 customers) and it doesn't take much to make a customer post a bad review about a business, especially if they try to charge triple the amount they quoted.

Granted, that MOST people, from my experience will only post reviews when they feel a company has done them wrong. It takes a lot more effort to get good reviews than it does to get bad ones. Just look for reviews like "Not honest about their prices." or " Charged way more than what they quoted."

look for reviews on sites such as Google maps, Yahoo local, or Bing.

Step 2: Ask questions. A LOT of questions. Some Houston carpet cleaning companies don't mind if you ask questions. In fact, most even encourage you to get as much information from them as possible. The more questions you ask, the better your overall experience with a company will be. If you ask a question, and the person your talking to can't give you a straight answer, it can make you think something is fishy. If you hire a company and have more questions, call them. Never wait for them to show up to ask your questions.

Step 3: Know what you are paying for. If you ever call to get quotes over the phone for a service, make sure you know exactly what you are paying for. For example, a carpet cleaning service says they can come out and steam clean your carpets for a flat rate. What exactly are you paying for? Do they remove stains, or just steam clean? Steam cleaning doesn't mean the stains will be removed! Again, use step 2: ASK questions.

If a 'sales' rep drops the price to make it seem like your getting a better deal that can potentially be a red flag. A service is in business because they make profit from their service. Dropping their price in order to get them to your house or business MIGHT end up being a sales tactic. SOMETIMES, the price they originally quoted will end up on the bill after they have completed the service.

Step 4: Give accurate information.

Sometimes when a Houston carpet cleaning company comes out to a clients house and charges more than what was quoted, it was because the information that was given was not accurate. Most services will ask many questions over the phone in order to give you the most accurate price quote.

So before a Houston TX carpet cleaning company comes out to clean your house, make sure you tell them as much information as you can.

Most companies charge by room, very few charge by square feet. So make sure you know how many square feet your rooms are, just in case. Some companies will move furniture for free, some will not. So be sure to let them know all the little details to make their job easier, and to keep the price quote accurate.

Step 5: Utilize these steps.

Use these steps and techniques and choose a company that suits you and works around your schedule.

These steps might save you money, and may even save you a bad experience.
