To a person new to websites and blogs, the thought of creating a blog with Wordpress can be pretty intimidating. Fortunately, with a little guidance it is very easy to set up a Wordpress blog. You will be a pro in no time.

The first thing you have to decide is if you want to have a self-hosted Wordpress blog or have it hosted on the Wordpress servers.

A self-hosted Wordpress blog is where you register a domain name and have your own hosting account with a company. A hosting account is basically a computer(server in geek talk) that you rent from a company. Your website files are located on this computer.

You then install the Wordpress software onto your server. This can be done one of two ways. You can install it manually. To install it this way you have to download the Wordpress software from the website and follow directions to install it. The next way is easier and faster. Most hosting companies have what they call "1 click installs". Basically, you type in some details for your site such as what you want the admin name and password to be and then you click a button to install it. A script on the server then installs it for you.

The other option you have is to start a blog on the wordpress website. A regular account is free, so if you are tight on money this might be the best option for you.

With this method, you just sign up like you would any other website. After you sign up you can begin blogging immediately. There are some disadvantages to this though. You don't have as much control over your blog as you would have with a self-hosted wordpress blog. You have to follow the wordpress website rules. If you don't you can have your blog deleted.

You might not like the look of the default Wordpress theme, luckily it's pretty easy to change. In order to change the theme you will need to login to your site. If you have a self-hosted wordpress blog you will have to add a /wp-admin to the end of your domain name to access the login screen.

Once you are logged into your blog you will want to look at the left hand side of your screen. You should see a column on the left hand side. You will want to click on "Appearance". After you click on appearance the menu will expand and you will want to click on "themes". You will then be taken to a page where you can browse all of the different themes. There are paid themes and free themes. Take a look around and see what you like.

If you want to get started blogging right away you can just choose a random one. You can always change it later. After you are done choosing a theme you are pretty much done with the "creation" aspect of creating a wordpress blog. The rest of the functions are more related to blogging. I would recommend you spend some time going through all the different menus. This will help you familiarize yourself with the different parts of the blog.
