The Benefits Of Drinking Coffee

Have you heard the latest buzz about the benefits of drinking coffee - it just might be good for you. over the years there have been thousands of studies on the effect of coffee use.

Did you know one of the benefits of drinking coffee is that it contains more antioxidants than broccoli and blueberries.

Type 2 Diabetes

Frank Hu, MD, MPH, PhD in WebMD says that the evidence is quite strong that one of the benefits of drinking coffee even decaffeinated coffee is that it helps prevent diabetes.

Studies have shown that if somebody drinks 6 or 7 cups a day have a 35% percent lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Franks says it is not the caffeine it more about the antioxidants and minerals in coffee that help the body use insulin to regulate the sugar in the blood supply.

Colon cancer

Anahad O'Connor wrote in the New York Times that people who drink four or more cups of coffee can reduce their risk of developing colon cancer by 15 percent.


The British Medical Journal published an article that provided evidence that drinking two or three cups of coffee reduced the risk of developing gallstones.

Cirrhosis of liver

Arthur Klatsky of Kaiser Permanente published an article in the Archives of Internal Medicine that showed another one of the benefits of drinking coffee is that it may help prevent cirrhosis of liver by counteracting the alcohol's poisonous effect on the liver.

Arthur Klatsky's study indicated one cup of coffee a day cuts the risk of alcoholic cirrhosis by 20% and four cups a day reduced the risk by a whopping 80%. He also wrote that the best way to avoid alcoholic cirrhosis is cut down on alcohol consumption and not to drink a lot of coffee.

Parkinson's Disease

In a recent study published by the Journal of the American Medical Association found that men who did not drink coffee were three times more likely to develop Parkinson's disease.

A study of 135000 people by the Harvard school of Public Health demonstrated another one of the benefits of drinking coffee is that men who drank 4 to 5 cups of coffee a day reduced their risk of developing Parkinson's disease by almost half.


If you are feeling jittery, having trouble sleeping, experiencing a rapid heartbeat you may have overindulged and should limit your coffee consumption.
