The creating of unique handmade jewellery is becoming a worldwide growing industry and because of the internet we are able to see collections of earrings, bracelets, necklaces and jewellery sets crafted all around the world from different cultures and in many unique and original designs.

You will find many variations in the quality and the materials of these pieces and some of the pieces of handmade jewellery are far superior to others in designs and manufacture. Generally designs create by local crafts men made from materials that they can source locally especially if these are traditional designs. In South America many of the countries have their own traditional designs crafted by talented local craftsmen from local materials.

Pieces of handmade jewellery crafted from a variety of beautiful materials and in countries like Ecuador you can see unique designs crafted from natural materials derived from tropical plants. Some of these lovely natural materials are Tagua, Cana Flecha, Guadua, Cuerno and leather is used to create the local designs. Tagua are made from the seed of the palm tree that can be seen grown widely in Columbia and Ecuador and these can be seen in many beaded jewellery designs. These are a tropical plant that is very similar to bamboo and this is native to all of South America and this are called Guadus and this is also used to create original pieces of handmade jewellery. Sugar cane will give you the material that is called Cana Fletcha, another material that are used to create these jewellery designs is Cuerno and this is made from bull’s horn. Along with these materials you will also find dried coffee beans and leather used to make these local pieces of jewellery.

There is a community of craftsmen that live in a small town called Otavalo and this town sits high up in the Andes Mountains in Ecuador and the entire population of this small town are craftsmen that produce beautiful pieces of handmade jewellery, earrings, bracelets, pendants and necklaces. These are some of the most stunning and unique designs that you can find in the world and because of the internet they now have a worldwide following.

The lovely material Tagua is used to create handmade earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants. The seed that is used to make the Tagua is quite large and some of them can reach the size of a golf ball and they are perfect for creating unique handmade jewellery designs as they are not only beautiful but they are also very beautiful. Other materials are often added to this seed bead to make unusual designs.

If you want a larger piece of handmade jewellery then you may find that they have been crafted from Guadua because in its natural state this can be found in larger pieces and again the collection or handmade earrings, bracelets and necklaces are found made from this and many of these pieces have been hand painted with traditional local designs.
