In less than a month, many people will be heading off to college. Perhaps you will be one of these individuals. You will pack your bags and then probably move into a dorm on a college campus, where you will share a room with a roommate. Since attending college requires a huge investment of both money and time, it would be wise to think about why you want to go to college and to decide whether you really want to spend four years of your life on this activity before setting foot on campus.
Some people go to college hoping to meet their spouse. They join organizations, meet others, and go on dates. Some people do succeed in finding their spouse. Unfortunately, many individuals who go to school with finding a spouse as their number one goal usually do not do very well in their classes. They are so focused on meeting the person that they plan to spend the rest of their life with that they cannot possibly focus on their classes. Therefore, they usually do not stay in school. Other people, however, have other goals.
Rather than being focused on finding a spouse, other people might instead want to learn about themselves. To accomplish this goal, they will take classes and join school organizations that sound interesting. Over time, they will see whether they really like these activities or if their interests lie in other areas. By learning about themselves, they can choose a field of study and extracurricular activities that suit them. By being in the right field, they will likely have a better college experience. There is also one other reason why people go to college that will help them in the future.
People also go to college to build their resumes. Rather than spending four years just going to class, they join activities. Activities help them learn to manage their time. They make the college experience better. Finally, they give students references that they can use when they are looking for a job after college.
I am a college graduate. Like many people, I made the mistake of changing my major several times, so it took a while for me to graduate. During my time in school, however, I took many helpful and interesting classes, such as Spanish, psychology, speech, and sociology. These classes helped me to learn about myself and about those around me.
My college experience was not perfect, but it helped me. If you decide to go to college, it should help you, too. Get ready for a life-changing experience, and have a great four years.
