What You Might Do If A Class Is Canceled

At some point during their college careers, most students have the experience of going to class, only to discover when they get there that the professor has canceled class for the day.

There are a variety of reasons why a professor might cancel class. He may have had a family emergency, for example, or perhaps he is out of town, attending a conference. In any case, if you learn that one of your professors has canceled class, you will have some unexpected free time. What are you going to do?

If you are a full-time student, your other classes will probably be in session, so you should not plan on taking a road trip that day. Instead, stay on campus, and do something else with your fifty minutes of free time.

One idea is to change into your workout clothes and run or walk briskly on campus. The fresh air will do you good, and the exercise will help you to release stress. After your workout, you should feel better, and the rest of your day should go smoothly. Working out is not the only activity that you might consider, however.

Another idea is to use your extra time for studying or school projects. Effective time management is crucial for success, and using your time to study can help you to be better prepared for the next test. By studying in the daytime, you should be more alert and therefore better able to make sense of what you are studying. Finally, if you are reading a chapter in a textbook, you should be able to stay awake to finish your reading. If you postpone your studying until nighttime, however, you might be too tired. Consider studying during your free time, because if you put off doing this necessary activity, you will not like the results. There are also other ways to spend this time, of course.

You might go talk with your advisor, visit the campus post office to check your mail, or go buy supplies that you need, such as scantrons or #2 pencils. When you have what you need, you will be better able to focus on your work.

A canceled class is a rarity, so do find a way to enjoy the occasion. Just be sure that you do not lose track of time, because you do not want to be late for your next class.
