The Transformation Of Nick Fury

So who is Nick Fury ? Well Nick Fury was a creation by Marvel Comics legends Jack Kirby and writer Stan Lee. Originally Colonel Fury was a fictional World War II army hero who become a super-spy. Fury's first appearance was in the 1963 comic book, Sergeant.Fury and his Howling Commandos, in the comic Sergeant.Fury and his Commandos take on the Nazis during World War II. Sergeant.Fury would later on become the leader of Marvel super-spy organization S.H.I.E.L.D (Supreme Headquarters, International, Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division).

Now Nick Fury has been illustrated in various fashions over the last 50 years, he has featured in various cartoon shows in the 1990s such as the Spider-man - Animated Series. So there is no denying that Nick Fury is a pivotal part of the Marvel Universe. What I have noticed though, is that Colonel Fury has undergone a major transformation in the Marvel Entertainment realm, compared to the Nick Fury we all know from the comic book series.

Personally I like the changes especially as it has involved one of my favourite actors, Samuel L. Jackson. The Ultimate Marvel Universe version of Nick Fury is the coolest transformation of a character that I have seen in the last couple of years. For me no one could have been a better choice, to play Nick Fury then the man himself, Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson brings the Fury element, a war veteran who is also a no-nonsense man of action, that has done and seen it all.

And the news that he will be continuing as Nick Fury in the upcoming Avengers film, that is yet to be released, was great, simply because in other films, Marvel Entertainment have changed the actors playing main characters. For example, the two Hulk films as well as the Spider-man character who has changed for the rebooted film The Amazing Spider-man, also to be released some time this year.

Sure rebooting the film is okay, but it begs the question why did they not start with this from the beginning. Nevertheless getting back to Nick Fury, the transformation he has undergone is really positive, because the transformations has not re-invented the character, rather the transformations have given the character a facelift, and yes for me Jackson makes a far better Nick Fury then past actors.

As a result and in conclusion, Nick Fury is still Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D, a war veteran who has fought alongside many of the Marvel Universes greats like Iron Man, just like in the comic book series.
