How Do I Make My Boyfriend Commit?
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

Commitment in relationships can be a sticky subject indeed. Sometimes there are two differing opinions about what level of commitment the relationship should have at any given point in time. While you may be thinking he's moving much too slowly on the commitment front he may feel that things are going way too fast. This leads to you pushing forward while he's trying to rein things in. Before you know, things are out of control and no one is happy with the state of things in your relationship.

Instead of looking for ways how to make your boyfriend commit, it would be better, for both of you, if you could take a step back and look at things from his point of view. Don't press on for a deeper commitment. Instead, figure out what he thinks, how he feels, and where you stand in his heart and mind. It can be scary to put yourself on the line like that but if you push too hard to force him into a commitment he isn't ready for it can spell disaster for your relationship. That doesn't work good for either one of you.

But before you do anything with him you need to figure out something important for yourself first.

What does Commitment Mean to YOU?

There are times in most relationships when couples argue over something to the bitter end only to discover that they were saying the SAME thing just in different ways. Before you make a huge press to get a deeper commitment from your boyfriend you need to understand what kind of deeper commitment you want first. Then you need to find out what his current level of commitment to you is. This can save you both the heartache of a breakup that neither of you want and the painful process of trying to get your ex back after the evil deed is done.

Commitment means different things to different people. If you really want something that is deeper than your understanding of the way your relationship is today then you need to find out what his thoughts are and what he wants from a relationship that has a deeper level of commitment. Pressing on when he's shying away will only lead to hurt feelings and bad blood between the two of you. If you really want to make your relationship work then it's important to stop trying to define your relationship and start looking for new and better ways to make the most of your relationship.
