Through Life\'s Journey

My husband, Rene, and I just celebrated our 31st year wedding anniversary and are still committed to live together thereafter.

Throwback Tuesday 31 years ago

August 10, 1982

6:00 P.M.

United Church of Christ in the Philippines

Baguio City, Philippines

On that day at exactly 6 in the evening, I marched down the church aisle to meet my best friend and vowed, "I do! From this day forward, where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God; for richer or for poorer, in health and in sickness 'til death do us part."

That was our most awaited day - the beginning of a journey we agreed to travail together for the rest of our lives. It is a journey filled with so much adventures since then.

Indeed, love is a many splendored thing...the famous Frank Sinatra sang! Or should I say, "Life is a many splendored thing!" The cycle of life shows me that life is truly a many splendored thing wrapped in a maze of mystery. As I am writing, my mind draws back to lots of memories that our journey brought us!

Our journey posts numerous possibilities. It is a constant quest in search for a better life; a mission to fulfill in service of others; a mystery to unfold an unknown future; a maze to fill with excitement as new horizons open; a game to play for the love of fun; a bad joke to a threat of separation; a battlefield to fight and defend the one we love; a buffet to enjoy the fruits of our relationship; a box of chocolates to savor the sweetness of each other's tender loving care; a dream to cherish the treasure of "him."

Rene and I went through a lot of difficult times and insurmountable challenges as we searched for a better life to give our growing family. As a pastor, he did his best to balance his ministry and make our house a place that our children would love to call their "home." It is a lot of responsibilities. And yet the mysteries of life kept us on our toes so that we can be ready when the unforeseen meets us along the way in our journey.

Nothing has changed a bit since we began our journey and as we went through the many facets of life together. Thirty-one years past and the love that blossomed from the very beginning of our journey continued to spread its scent to fill the memories we are creating. These are precious moments we are filling our memory boxes with in the passage of time that we will treasure for as long as we live . . . and as the Lord blesses 'til death do us part!
