Phone Conversations Should Be Private

People love their cell phones. Many use their phones to go online. They post to social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter. Some even use their phones to send a quick message to their online class while they are at work.

In addition to using their phones for Internet activities, people also use their phones simply to talk to one another. They talk. And talk. And talk. People would rather continue what they were doing than overhear someone's phone conversation.

One thing a person would not want to overhear is an argument between the two people on the phone. A situation like this is, of course, stressful for the individuals involved in the argument, who must work out their issues. It is also stressful for the innocent person who overhears the argument. He does not know what it is about, and since he is not involved in the situation, there is nothing that he can do to resolve it. Arguments are not the only conversation that a person would not want to overhear, however.

Another conversation that a person would not want to overhear is a conversation between coworkers about a situation at work. He would not want to overhear this conversation, because he would then know something about it. The next day, while he is at work, he might be called into his boss's office to see what he knows, which would put him in a difficult and uncomfortable position.

Since people are so attached to their phones, and they talk on them often, many of us hear conversations that we are likely not supposed to hear. We might be in the restroom and overhear a conversation in the stall next to ours. We might also be standing in line at the grocery store, waiting to pay for our purchases and go home, when suddenly the person in front of us in line begins talking on his phone.

Ideally, people would save their phone conversations for a time when they can talk without others overhearing what they say, but some people simply cannot wait. They feel that they will burst if they do not share their news. They have to tell others about their recent medical appointment or their upcoming jury duty.

I make my phone calls at home. That way, others do not overhear what I am saying. By talking at home, I also save myself some embarrassment if the call makes me angry or upset.
