We can analyze any aspect of life and the need for healthy communication will be at the forefront. Communication within an institution is critical to achieving daily functioning success. Often time human conflict is a result of poor communication. Without organizational communication within the institution, the organizational culture is destined to experience internal shifts and problems.
As stated before, communication is central to organizational conflict as it involves more than one person e.g. variable. Inadequate information, along with lack of consideration for time constraints within my organization continuously creates service delivery challenges. Management often ignores vital information that should be considered during their decision making. During the holiday time, management fails to properly assess the daily schedule, or allow; utilize member feedback as it can serve as a guide in temporarily revamping operating hours.
Factors not considered in organizations ability to deliver uninterrupted service during holiday; unanticipated closesure is, limited staff, shorter opration hours, un-calculated time restrictions, and scheduling of appointments etc. The end result is increased frustration, staff feeling overwhelmed, poor service delivery, and unmet goals and objectives become obsolete and overlooked. Understanding the role of the critical path and adhering to institutional politics along with power of positions, communication is essential when providing medication assisted therapy e.g. treatment to suffering individuals. Communication is about speaking, listening, observing, and responding appropriately.
During holiday closings with my clinic the feedback and suggestions offered by me and the other intake coordinator were ignored. The communication disregard displayed by supervision is connected to our gender, the suggestions provided by male staff were accepted. Whereas, that which was epressed by female colleague's appeared ignored. The implied communication message received was lack of value for all staff input.
The events of this week reminded me of the 1700’s - 1800’s, women were on the sideline due to gender roles. Postmodern approach is a designed which oppresses the voice of women, and perpetuates communication marginalization. I question the respect and acknowledgment of rising educational levels, and experience. This week has been an organizational classical perspective experience.
Achieving common goals of an agency requires a multitude of input, e.g. teamwork. Focusing solely on delegation and production stifles team member innovation; along with disrupt the organizational culture norm. Leaders must be mindful of the organizational tone in which he/she is setting.
