Do you want a Smart Cover for your Ipad 2, but you don't want to spend that much money?
Do you want full coverage for your Ipad 2, but don't want the bulk that many cases add?
If so the Acase leather Ipad 2 Case, may be right for you.
Features
The Stand
The Acase leather case is a very slim, wrap-around folio type case which includes a stand. I love the unique design. While it looks like your ordinary folio case, when you release the clips nearest the center of the case it becomes a "z' design case. By "z'" design I mean that the leather case is clipped on to the Ipad 2, but there is a second piece of leather attached in the middle of the back covering, which goes from the middle of the back to covering the front. This allows the shape fo the Ipad and Acase leather case to form a "z".
The "z" design allows for the Ipad to use the ridges on the interiror of the case front as holders to keep the Ipad in place as you view the Ipad from one of four different angles. It should be noted that lowest angle is not very secure.
The Acase leather case also has a typing angle. Just like the Smart Cover, the front cover folds under the Ipad for a triangle just at the right angle for typing (when the Ipad is clipped in with all the clips).
The Cllips
As I mentioned earlier, the Ipad is cllipped into place into the case. it is very secure and there is no obstruction to viewing or to the ports and camera.
The Case
The Acase leather case is very thin, just like the Smart Cover. It provides full wrap around protection, which the Smart Cover lacks. The one feature that this cover does not have is the sleep/awake mode of the Smart Cover. Acase leather case does not include magnets in the case. This is the greatest disappointment. I wonder if Acase will update the case to include magnets.
The Cost
While the Smart Cover costs $69 and up for the leather version, the Acase leather case is less than $30 on-line.
Personal Reflections
I am by nature one who looks for the best quality at the cheapest price. For that reason, I would recommend the Acase leather case. It is full of great features - the secure stand and typing stand, the full protection, and the slim design. My one reservation is about the "leather" case. It is called "litchi grain mark leather". I have searched for information on this leather and have found none. I assume that this is an imitation leather. Even if it is, it will probably outlast the time most users will use the Ipad 2 and its case before upgrading and needing a different case. The Ipad 3 is projected to be out later this year. Followed by the Ipad 4, 5, 6, etc.
