This ipad slip cover review is about the Booq Boa Skin XS. Though the word "skin" is in the name, it is more like a sleeve. It encases the ipad and protects it from all sides, vs. a skin which just protects the back of the ipad.
Why shoud I use the Booq Boa Skin XS?
The Booq Boa Skin XS is an attractive sleeve made of several components. First, you have a hardboard covered with twylon, a material made of tweed and nylon, for a tough durable cover. The screen of the ipad is protected by this hardboard. Then you have the back exterior made of neoprene. This is the same material that is used in fisherman's waders. It also is very durable and the stretchy nature of the material allows the ipad to be secured by the firm stretch across the back of the Ipad. Because the case does stretch, smaller items like earphones can be placed in the case with the ipad. Finally, the interior is lined with non-abrasive nylon to the protect the ipad's back and screen from scratches.
As mentioned above the case grips the ipad as the neoprene is stretched. This is so effective that no strap or other closure is needed to secure the Ipad in this case. In fact, one can hold the Ipad in the case upside down and the ipad will not fall out.
The materials and detailed manufacturing are excellent. It is great to see such a quality product. This fact along with the reasonable price make this a good product.
What problems does the Booq Boa Skin XS have?
One major problem with this case is that the Ipad's back is not fully covered. The twylon covered hardboard fully covers and protects the screen, but the neoprene is about an inch short of the length of the Ipad. I think this was to make the ipad easier to grip and retrieve from the case, but all the same it is a problem. The exposed end of the ipad will get scratched.
A slip cover normally is used to protect the ipad in another larger container, a briefcase, backpack, etc. That means the ipad is exposed to other objects that may damage it. If the slip cover does not fully cover the Ipad the unexposed area will get damaged.
Who should use the Booq Boa Skin XS?
This case is designed for the person who desires an affordable, attractive slip case who will also be using a skin or shell to protect his Ipad. In combination with a shell/skin this makes a great case.. A slip case is ideal for the business man who uses his briefcase to transport his ipad from office to conference room, or the college student who carries his ipad in his bookbag. However, the ipad should never be naked, without any protection. Therefore, the ideal combination of a shell or skin placed on the Ipad and then inserted in the Booq Boa Skin XS makes sense.
What is the author's opinion of the Booq Boa Skin XS?
I feel that the Booq Boa Skin XS is a good buy. It is a durable, well constructed, attractive slip case at an affordable price. Along with a quality shell or skin (for example the Proporta Mizu shell) it will protect the ipad well from minor scratches and dings the ipad may encounter in daily use.
