When CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, introduced Amazon's first tablet PC Kindle Fire for the first time, I said to myself, this is just another regular touchscreen tablet computer that would like to compete with iPad 2. Even though Kindle Fire is not yet out for sale, which will happen on November 15th 2011, we can make an important review about it.
Minuses of Kindle Fire
1.) No Camera - I think this is the hardest minus of all. Well, it would not be that hard, if you take some other tablet PCs into consideration. This is the most common feature for the most tablets out there on the market. Lacking a camera basically means that you can not perform on-line video chats (yes, no Skyping), and that is a huge blow for some students or businessmen, who are on the other side of the country or world. On the Amazon, they said people use mobile phones, laptops or digital cameras for video-chats and taking pictures. This is true, but take into a consideration, when buying a tablet computer, anyway.
2.) No Bluetooth - In this modern age, every computer device has a Bluetooth option. You will not be able to connect Kindle Fire wirelessly to your other devices, which is a shame. But still, you will get a USB cable and connect it with your phone or laptop computer.
3.) Small Display - Otherwise, this is not that of a bigger deal, if a display is smaller then expected. Primary, Kindle Fire should have been designed with 10 inch display, but then Amazon decided to go with 7 inch display instead. Some will say that this is OK, but some that this is not good for them. Why? Since Amazon is advertising Kindle Fire not just for reading e-books and magazines, but also watching movies, the thing is that the 10 inch display would be much better choice than 7 inched. In this case, you could watch movies easier on a bigger screen and share it with your friends. However, the difference between 7 and 10 inches is not that frustrating, when you think of a low price you pay for it. Bare in mind this decision, when buying Kindle Fire or some other tablet PC.
Pluses of Kindle Fire
1.) Price - It costs only $199, which is really cheap for the things you get in it (read more below). This is the price that will send a message to other manufacturers of tablet PCs. I think that this will start a revolution in pricing. Since iPad is expensive for most of people, even Apple will have to bend under the pressure of Amazon Kindle Fire and others that will follow, to lower their iPad prices.
2.) Amazon Silk - This is a brand new cloud-accelerated web browser, specially designed from Amazon experts. What it basically does, is that you can load and open many different webpages on the internet and the browser is still working very fast. Say goodbye to slow mobile phone web browsers that are giving you headaches. Amazon Silk desn't mind if one website has a lot of pictures, the others will be opened very quickly. This is definitely new and revolutionary web browser that will pave the way for the future.
3.) Processor - It has a dual core processor, which is very good when you work on more than one application or open more than one software. Such a small device, but such fast processor speed.
4.) Applications - Some say, that according to iPad 2, Kindle Fire has only a few apps for disposal and they work only on Amazon based "ecosystem". But this is not the case here. Even though Kindle Fire seems to be cheap, suspiciously too cheap, Amazon expects when a customer buys a Kindle Fire, also becomes a member of one of its internet stores or buys a video game or e-book every now and then. The best thing here to do is, to become the Amazon Prime member, which annually costs only $79 (first month is a free testing period). I recommend to become a Amazon Prime member, if you purchase a Kindle Fire. This way you pay only $199 + $79 to include everything you need for the perfect tablet computer you have always wished for. That includes all-free applications, movies, magazines, e-books and much more!
5.) Android - Kindle Fire is based on Android operating system, which is getting more popular by day. People are used to it on mobile phones, which is really easy to use and understand.
We will find out more about Kindle Fire, when the device comes to the market (on 15th of November 2011). There is more to say about Kindle Fire positive sides, but we will have to wait untill we get one in our hands. Hopefully, Kindle Fire will start a revolution in pricing of computer tablets, which is good for us consumers. I would say, that Kindle Fire is very affordable and for this price, you can get a lot. There has never been a tablet PC that offers more than Kindle Fire.
