Log Into Facebook In China

So you and the rest of China are having trouble logging into your Facebook account. It's normal, that's just how things here in China go. Don't worry it's not your fault, nor is it the fault of your computer. And yes, you can fix it in one of two ways.

You can log into Facebook in China using a web based proxy. Proxies are a bit more well known that VPNs. Maybe it's because there's more of them due to the ease of setting them up, but whatever the reason, there are still some proxies that can be used to log into Facebook in China.

Two years ago, there were tons. And many were free. In just about every "China" based forum you could find a list of free proxies, and as China blocked some, more would go up. Well, China finally caught up and most of the proxies available today are paid, and won't be much cheaper that a VPN service.

VPNs are more secure than proxies, and for many users are the preferred way to unblock sites in China. This does not mean however that they're for everyone. Proxies are preferred by some for the reason that they're very low maintenance. Because you're accessing a secure browser from the proxy site (https), any type of updates are automatically done at the site and don't concern you.

Also, there's nothing to download or install - all you've got to do is click the link and you're all set to log into Facebook and other sites in China.

VPNs, though updating them can be a pain sometimes, provide higher and more well rounded security. While proxies only secure your browsing experience, VPNs secure your whole Internet connection device. Though they can be higher maintenance than proxies, they do offer their own conveniences, mainly that you can use your normal browser and software while the VPN is running, and you won't notice a difference in the way you operate your computer.

Because I'm going to be here for a while, I've got access to both. I find that in some situations I prefer to use a web based proxy, and in other situations I prefer the VPN. If one service is experiencing issues for a couple hours or a day, I can easily switch to another one. This is by no means a requirement, and one service will usually be enough, but as a matter of convenience, the extra 80 dollars for a year of service is nothing really.

If you think about how often you might log into Facebook in China (twice a day for one year) means that you'd be paying only a few cents each time you log in. But you can also use these services for Youtube, Twitter, blocked Wikipedia pages, Gmail, Google searches/images/documents, and whatever random stuff China blocks. It's worth every penny.
