How difficult is it to type on the Ipad touchscreen? If you are used to typing with a regular keyboard, do you miss the feel of the responsivie keys under your fingers? Do you miss knowing what mistakes you made when you pressed the keys down vs. having to look for mistakes made by the touchscreen?
Is it not time to invest in a keyboard Ipad case?
The Keyboard
Menotek has made one just the Ipad 2. The Keyboard is bluetooth connected, so no wires or cables are needed to operate the Ipad from the keyboard. It is a simple matter of adjusting the settings on the ipad. This keyboard is removable and can be used with the Iphone 4 and several other tablets.
The Menotek keyboard case has rubberized keys and is spillproof and waterproof, so you do not have to worry about frying your keyboard if your drink spills on the keypad. The keyboard is charged through the included USB cable.
This keyboard case is not designed for lap typing. A table or desk is necessary for the use of this keyboard case.
The major concern I have about the keyboard case is the bottom keys are lower than the wrist rest. This makes it very difficult to get to the spacebar. Since the spacebar is the most used key of the keyboard, this problem is huge. The only solution I can think of is building up the case where the bottom row of keys sit. I could possibly use strips of foam that have tape on one side. This tape is very thin, maybe an 1/8 inch thick and would allow for multiple layers until the right height is reached. I would hope that Menotek would correct this problem in future productions.
The Case
The Menotek keyboard case is a synthetic leather ipad case. It is well designed with a thin metal kickstand on the front cover and a leather latch that straps the case closed when not in use. The back of the case is a snap on back to the Ipad. When it is in place, it looks like it was made with the Ipad. The fit is perfect. All the holes are in the right places and will not be moved from their position. This case provides full protection for the Ipad even to its corners.
Since the latch has no magnets the Ipad's compass and light sensor are not affected by the case, unlike some cases that have the magnet closure.
One concern about the leather strap is that is does not keep the ipad from moving back and forth in the case when one walks with it in hand. However, the Ipad is very secure and will be protected from objects that may cause damage to it when placed in a backpack.
The keyboard fits inside the front cover and is easily taken out of the case and also very secure when it is in the case.
My Opinion
This is a fine case and a great keyboard. My concern about the bottom keys is a real issue, that Menotek should resolve to make this an excellent keyboard case. The case is heavy as are all keyboard cases. There is no way around this except taking the keyboard out of the case.
This case is also higher priced than many other folio cases due to the keyboard. It is however, priced similar to other keyboard cases.
If you are willing to perform the minor repair work on the case that I suggested earlier, the Menotek keyboard case would make a great case for your typing needs.
i totally agree a keyboard is a must to make the Ipad a functional computer.
